Nickelodeon pimping che guevara Reader Rob D. sent me the following email:
First off I'd like to say great job with the blog, I've been reading it for some time now and I visit it reapetedly throughout the day. That being said, I'm a 32 year old American-born Cuban. I'm married and have 2 little girls, one who's almost 4 and the other almost 2. We watch a ton of children's programing and I could swear that tonight I saw the absolute lowest of the low. Nickelodion has been promoting a new show called the Naked Brothers Band about 2 little kids who start a band. these guys can't be older thann 12 or 13. I could swear that one of them in the comercial is wearing a Che shirt with a Cuban flag on it! Plase post and ask if anyone else has seen this. I am 99% sure I saw it but it was a quick clip and I was so shocked I almost came out of my seat. I feel like there must be something we can do about this. I was very impressed with the speed in which the word got out there about the Target stores and the quickness of the results. Anyway, hope you can post about this and thanks alot for your time. To be honest, I was skeptical. But unfortunately, Nickelodeon's "Naked Brothers Band" kids show is, indeed, pimping the Butcher of la Cabaña:
Stalinists need heros too. /s
I want to make a tshirt with hitler on the face and underneath it says "it's german for che."
The kid in the Che shirt looks like he's holding a Heineken. The only thing I let my kids watch on Nick is Spongebob, and I turn it off during the commercials.
I have seen the previews, and not only does the show look horrible, their music stinks. Thank God my kids show no interest in even watching it.
Now that I think of it, Disney has most of the shows they really like: Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hannah Montana, That's So Raven.
Look now, one of the kids is wearing a pirate on his shirt, hardly pimping piracy.
we have come so far from the days children learned the New England Primer...
That picture looks photoshopped.
It is probably just as well that the enemy is revealing itself so openly as to engage children in this kind of public indoctrination. Their confidence is fatal hubris.
For American-Cubans, Che is taken much more seriously than pirates.
Che Guevara is a real person from recent history, held up by millions of terrorist sympathizers and totalitarians as an ideal role-model.
It there were millions advocating piracy around the world your analogy would be valid. There are not, and it is not.
They are standing with cardboard cutouts of themselves.
the synthetic cool product by PC suits who think they and create cool by fiat.
a picture of future OD obituaries and aids activists.
I watched a little of the "White Rapper Show" on VH1 last night and one of the guys had on a t-shirt with a huge picture of Hugo Chavez! I don't think they even know what/who they are wearing.
I understand that Che is symbol for radical anarchist liberals, but if you take this picture out of the context of what the kids were doing dressed in different costumes, it can not be clearly said they are pimping Che. Looks like Napolean is in the group also and I am not sure who the kid is on the right. Guess I would want to watch the whole bit to get a clearer meaning of what Nick was trying to promote there.
Any incite on why they were dressed in those costumes?
Ha! I had not even noticed that two of the four figures were cardboard cut outs..ha!
Get tivo and set to only allow kids to watch shows that you specifically allow. All other tv can be password protected. Works well for our family with young kids. The only crap left is the commercials (which can be plenty crappy).
Arrrg! Pirates are cool.
