"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?
"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."
Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

They have tried to sell warnings about the dangers as nothing more than creating false fear. They can't have a TV show making the case they've been trying to hide.
Wayne Logan = Barak Obama
I agree...but then I guess the reality is that even heroes go out in non-heroic ways sometimes...and they DO get killed. That's the reality of life.IMO, he WAS being a hero to the soldiers under him who had been murdered by Fayed. I get the reason they need to work with him but I also understood why Curtis could not. Some things cannot be put aside.
I thought that was the comic relief ... A muslim trying to stop the terrorists, LOL.
The Assad part is believable, just think Arafat.
***Last Season Final Episode Spoiler in This Post***
The last scene in the final episode from last year was Bauer being kidnapped by the Chicoms and taken away. This season opened with it being two years later and Bauer being negotiated back to the US as trade goods to appease the Terrorists.
That was the cliffhanger. We have to wait until next week to see the fallout.
That's Wayne Palmer...
Bingo!
So's Condi, and Michael Steele and Ken Blackman...etc.
"All the whiners quoted in the article come off as crybaby, sour-grapes, delusional moonbats"
A tac team with Jack Bauer has been dispatched to "interview" them. Chloe has a satellite overhead now, in case they run.
Maybe Curtis is not dead. Kinda like ABC's All My Children. They just keep coming back.
What a moron! He thinks the terrorists are getting ideas from 24? Hello, you idiot, they already have ideas, does 9/11 ring a bell for you?? I could list all the dates of every terrorist act they have pulled but evidently this fool has short term memory loss... I loathe the media and their little friends too.
He certainly has no brass!!
Looks like Curtis was shot in the right shoulder.....death was not mentioned.....I believe you are premature.
This President is much cooler than Obama -- he sports a goatee. The only criticism I have of the new season is the new President Palmer. He is totally not convincing as President. And how did the President's brother become President after he was killed? Why didn't the Vice President take over? I find this part of the story line very confusing.
Exactly. The Nielsen ratings are hopelessly obsolete. Every person I know either has TIVO or other DVR system with their cable or satellite company, and never miss a show they want to see.
Thanks! The last scene gives me goosebumps.
Five gets you ten that this was a Clinton appointee. As is some idiot named Jhally, also quoted in the story as to the propaganda techniques used by Fox in that they are watching Fox News on the show.
Hello, Mr. Jhally . . . Do you think MSNBCBS/ABCNN is going to give Fox News permission to use their logo on a Fox News show? Do you think an Intelligence Agency is actually going to watch the pablum put out by MSNBCBS/ABCNN in a work setting?
Hello, Mr. Cloonan . . . can you tell me which news show the terrorists watched to pull off 9-11? Can you tell me why every intelligence agency in the world (including the French) has been warning against these Islamic Terrorists getting their hands on suitcase nukes and the same terrorists have repeatedly stated their intention to acquire and use them? I'm sure it is because they got the idea from a Fox drama like 24! < / sarcasm >
What these nimrods are really afraid of is waking up enough of the American Sheeple by diverting their interests from safe shows like American Idol and Desperate Housewives so that they demand that our gelded political class take the restrains off our military and law enforcement agencies in fighting these terrorists.
I love guys like this. They have the biggest scam in the world going on and their minions eat it up. The funny thing is he makes all of it up.
I fear they will never reveal what happened and the show will turn into "Lost" in Kansas.
