Biden Wants Confederate Flag Off Grounds

Columbia, S.C. -- Sen. Joseph Biden, a Democratic presidential hopeful joining fellow Sen. Christopher Dodd at Martin Luther King Jr. holiday events, said Monday he thinks the Confederate flag should be kept off South Carolina's Statehouse grounds.

"If I were a state legislator, I'd vote for it to move off the grounds — out of the state," the Delaware senator said before the civil rights group held a march and rally at the Statehouse here to support its boycott of the state.

In Chicago, Sen. Barack Obama, also prominently mentioned in speculation about the White House sweepstakes in 2008, was a hit at a Rainbow/PUSH Coalition breakfast honoring King, even if he didn't deliver what much of the crowd clearly wanted: a declaration that he will run for president.

Obama received a standing ovation at the annual King scholarship breakfast when the Rev. Jesse Jackson introduced him with an approving reference to the Illinois Democrat's presidential aspirations.

"It's a long, nonstop line between the march in Selma in 1965 and the inauguration in Washington in 2009," said Jackson, the coalition's founder and a one-time presidential candidate himself.

Later, in an address at a King remembrance service at St. Mark's Church in suburban Harvey, Obama said: "I'm not making news today. I'm not here to make news. There will be a time for that."

More than six years after the Confederate flag was taken down from the South Carolina Capitol dome, its location in front of the Statehouse remains an issue at the heart of events celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy.

Jim Hanks stood across from the Statehouse with about 35 Confederate flag supporters.

"We love this flag. We love our heritage," said Hanks, of Lexington.

Some carried signs saying: "South Carolina does not want Chris Dodd,"...

Chris Dodd won the hypocrisy race on this yesterday. As usual, Biden is a "hair" late.

I guess it's safe to assume that Biden didn't go to lunch at Maurice's Barbeque when he was in Columbia:

FYI - Joe Biden (D-Delaware) once owned property that had an explicit clause in the deed which forbade selling the property to Blacks.

This was news about 20+ years ago. I'm "surprised" that the media has forgotten about it now.

When did it become Biden's business what SC does with its flags?

He's a liberal. Be believes that everyone has a right to his opinion.

As I just posted on the forum of the Delaware newspaper..........Biden needs to open a history book and then shut his mouth. If he's so concerned about South Carolina and it's heritage let him move there and run for office there.......but until he does he needs to mind his own business.

The Museum of the Confederacy has a new (old) portrait of our beloved General Lee. First public viewing in 140 years.

Be kind folks...

Afterall - that Confederate flag being flown in public is just about the most important issue facing the nation today...

At least -- the most important issue that these two dim witted feckless imbeciles can comprehend...

The world is aflame in war, the threat of that war becoming nuclear - and these two ass hats are working the racial pimp routine on the new Democrat plantation....

Just think -- if we had retained the criteria to vote that our founders WISELY implemented, there would be no Democrat party as we know it today...

Lord help us -- we are "led" by the least among us....

Never has a man so lacking, from a state so inconsequential, with a mouth so large and an intellect so small --- caused such grief to a nation....as has Biden.

Cheap pandering for votes. Biden and Dodd also wish to use the Confederate flag issue to smear Republicans. The GOP controls the Governorship and General Assembly of SC. The media could sugguest that the state GOP endorses the flag. Moreover, the media would ask the GOP Presidential contenders what their opinion on the matter is. No matter how they answer the media would spin the responses as insensitive to blacks.

BTW, the Confederate flag was put in place by Ernest Hollings, a former SC Governor and Senator. Why didn't Dodd and Biden ever discuss the matter with Hollings when he was in the Senate with them?

the Confederate flag should be kept off South Carolina's Statehouse grounds

First raised there by a DEMOCRAT, Fritz Hollings. Funny how that's not mentioned.

"Just think -- if we had retained the criteria to vote that our founders WISELY implemented, there would be no Democrat party as we know it today... "

The Founders did not implement any voting criteria---they just stated that the right to vote for Representative would be the same as for the election of members to the lower house of the state legislature.

Hmmm. Am I missing something? Biden isn't from South Carolina. He would do well to mind his own business and leave SC to those that live and vote there. Libs have their way there will be no more states. They will just rule all.

Good post. I think you hit every note.

This bears repeating:

"Just think -- if we had retained the criteria to vote that our founders WISELY implemented, there would be no Democrat party as we know it today..."

The Founders knew the danger of unrestrained "true" democracy, but I think they lacked foresight in awarding piddly staes like RE, DE and CT equal status in the senate. We are today saddled with the liberal idiots the voters in these states keep sending to Washington.

Republican presidential candidates don't announce that they would take the Confederate Flag down because everytime we do some Democrat shoots him in the head and puts it back up.
