You have also hit on one of the things that makes Nifong's failure to interview the accuser until many months after the indictments were issued such an egregious act of professional misconduct -- these cases often turn on the credibility of the complaining witness. For him not to have taken that into account before indicting the students is unpardonable.
How do you know Nifong did not interview her? Why would you believe a thing he says?
Do you seriously entertain the idea that Nifong or his office did not after the state lab found no Duke player DNA on her go to her and demand, explain this Ms. "They Did Not Wear Condums!" Do you seriously entertain the idea that Nifong or his office did not after the state lab found DNA from four to seven other men on her and demand, explain this Ms. "No Sex for a Week before the Party." Nifong probably personally and the DPD and his investigator at his direction most certainly asked her about all these problems with the evidence.
He was trying to win an election not commit professional suicide. He has lied to the press. He has lied in open court. Why would you believe it just because he says he did not interview her. He said that because he does not want to be arrested for this frame job. But it is just one more lie in this hoax.
Nifong is unpardonable, but I think that he very purposefully didn't want to have Mangum 'interviewed' by his office. FWIW, because Nifong has lied over and over again in this case, I do not actually believe that he never did interview her about the facts of the case before December. I think it is pure and utter BS lies from him that he only asked her about her children, and was she on ecstasy (April 11). He is a pathological liar, and pathological liars tell more lies when they've been caught. She was too upset to talk about the case, yeah right! Maybe she was upset because he had just found out from Meehan that she had DNA from at least four other men in/on her from the rape kit.
And we know the reason he didn't talk to her. He didn't want to have to act responsibly about her extreme inconsistencies. To interview her prior to the November election would force him to dismiss the charges, but he didn't want to because it would cost him black votes, the only solid voting block he could count on because they were salivating to see rich white boys sent to prison.
Refusing to interview Mangum or read the case file closely after getting the indictments would help him establish plausible deniability when the rubber met the road.
