That is interesting. I am not sure if I had heard that on the history channel or not. That is where I heard about some US sailors dying before Pearl Habor.

I just googled it and yeah I remember seeing a history channel story about that sinking. Hard to believe in those days a hard left folk singer like Woody Guthrie would write a song about it.

Of course the key differences between now and then is:

1. There was a 'rat in the White House which makes wars good.

2. We were on the side or would soon be on the side of Joe Stalin and the left has never had such a hero except maybe Castro.

Yeah, so I've been checking around and it seems that it's fairly common knowledge from people who have followed this (more closely than I) that Crystal was known by the DPD. I just was reading on one of the liestoppers boards about the 60 minutes show. Fascinating reading over there.

New Neff article from the N&O on how Chesshire warned Nifong early on he was violating the ethics cannons:

abb: should this become the focus of a new thread? I did a search and did not see it posted yet.

Reading Nifong's famous statement in Neff's article:

I'm not going to allow Durham's view in the minds of the world to be a bunch of lacrosse players at Duke raping a black girl from Durham."

got me to thinking about how well he had succeeded in this. When I think of Durham I now think of a corrupt prosecutor. In fact when I think of NC, I think of a corrupt legal system. Good job Nifong.

* She was convicted of stealing a car and sentenced to 3 weekends in detention. (In 2002, she stole a taxi from a man to whom she was giving a lap dance. A high speed chase then ensued, and when the deputy chasing her approached the stolen taxi on foot, she tried to run over him. She pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of larceny, speeding to elude arrest, assault on a government official and driving while impaired.

* The accuser told authorities that in 1998, her husband threatened to kill her. However, she did not appear at the court hearing and thus the charges were dropped.[28]

* The accuser frequently passed out while performing as an exotic dancer at the Platinum Club in Hillsborough, according to the former club manager. The former manager also stated that Mangum had to be dragged out of the establishment onto gravel either one or two nights prior to the March 13 party: "She was heavy. It took four or five of us to carry her outside. She was dead weight. That's how passed out she was. She never woke up. We could have put the scratches on her. That could be how she got them."[29] The former manager went on to describe the accuser as "a club employee whose problems with other dancers and customers sometimes made it hard for her to make money," citing an event in which she started to pull a female customer's hair.[30]

* According to the Platinum Club owner, the accuser danced at the club on March 23, 24, and 25. Those were the same dates she told doctors she was "in excruciating pain from the [...] beating." The owner said the accuser did not say anything about being raped 10 days earlier.[31] Similarly, 60 Minutes released a video of her allegedly dancing at the club less than two weeks after the alleged incident, again raising doubts as to how "traumatized" she actually was.[32]

* The strip club's security officer said that the accuser told co-workers four days after the alleged incident that she "was going to get money from some boys at a Duke party who hadn't paid her," adding that she essentially said, "I'm going to get paid by the white boys." The security guard did not make a big deal of it "because no one takes her seriously."[33]

Beter than the Cubs. Ours is measured by centuries.

And I beg to differ with the Saints faithful. Bears are going to win.

I trust no FReeper was among the Saints fans cheering for their QB not to get up after an ugly sack a few years ago. Those people are pure scum of the earth.

DURHAM -- A 23-year-old woman was arrested Friday on charges she was driving a stolen taxi and tried to run over a deputy who was pursuing her on DWI, speeding and other offenses.

Crystal Gail Mangum of 211 Charles St. faces 10 charges, including driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license, eluding police, reckless driving, failure to heed a siren and lights, assault on an officer and larceny of a motor vehicle, warrants say.

At 12:42 p.m. Friday, deputy J.P. Carroll spotted the stolen cab at Angier Avenue and Page Road and turned on his lights and siren. The driver fled, arrest warrants say. The chase led onto U.S. 70, where speeds reached 70 mph. After the car traveled into a wooded area, warrants say, Carroll approached, but the taxi driver drove toward him. He jumped away, bumping his vehicle.

Further information wasn't available, but warrants say both cars sustained damage. Mangum, jailed on $ 75,000 bail, is to appear today in District Court.

I'm predicting the Bears win a close game but would not be surprised if they lose.

Rex is hot again. If good Rex shows up the Bears will win because the Offenses will be equal and the Bears D and special teams are superior.

Weather could be a big factor since the Saints are a dome team.

Either way let the best team win.

I missed the Bush interview. Got back home from the Bears game just in time to catch the Duke stuff.

Did the MSM moron do the usual calling him Mr. Bush?

Next time that happens I want the President to say "Excuse me your looking for one of my brothers. Neal or Marvin. Those are the only 2 men in the family Mr. Bush is the proper form of address"

If it is true she wanted to drop this months ago and was threatened by Nifong she has been abused by him.

I want the President to go get Neal or Marvin next time this happens and say "I'm President Bush. You must want to talk to one of my brothers. You can't want Jeb because he's Governor and since you still call Bill Clinton Mr. President you can't mean my father since according to you Mr. Bush would not be right for him. Or do you mean running back Reggie Bush?"

I wonder with all the DNA they found if she was drugged out and attacked elsewhere and her mind connected it to what happened at Duke.

They won't do anything right away. My guess is that it will be forty-five or more days before they act.

I'm very unhappy with the prosecutors chosen to take this case and I'm not at all convinced they'll do the right thing, either.

I can't believe the defense has not invoked the 'speedy trial' rule.

Nifong is now, in effect, exercising his Fifth Amendment rights.

He had to step down from the case to stop himself from telling more lies generally and, worse, further perjuring himself in open court and in signed affidavits and declarations.
