Bush Stands Alone
Weekly Standard ^ | 1-13-07 | Fred Barnes

There's a simple reason the Washington establishment, Democrats, and the press hate President Bush's new strategy in Iraq: He spurned their advice. He ordered a troop increase, not the first phase of a withdrawal. He didn't echo Democrats like Senator Joe Biden and suggest the war in Iraq is lost. The thrust of his nationally televised speech last week was that we can still win. He mostly rejected the findings of the Iraq Study Group. And he refused--in fact, he's emphatically opposed--to engage Iran and Syria in talks. Nor did he go along with calls to abandon democracy as the fundamental goal of his foreign policy in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.

I echo your sentiments as well. I will not fail our president.

MSNBC, Their audience is 80% Leftists. If they can only muster 60%, this means that even about 20% of the extreme left don't agree.

Anyone who criticizes Bush on Iraq is foolish.

Our policies thus far have been highly effective.

The idea that the media has provided some measure of accuracy to events in Iraq is ridiculous. By the end of 2003, the media had ceased to be a responsible party in this discussion.

I am amazed and grateful for how tough President Bush has been to sustain our Iraq policy.

There is overwhelming empirical evidence that withdrawals of troops have caused immediate catastrphic problems and long term chronic crises with Islamic radicalism.

I am also impressed with General Patraeus and the strategy that is unfolding under the President's Iraq plan. To those who did not support going to war in Iraq, i.e. those who did not understand the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, they should realize that this is water under the bridge. We are in it, and we have to win it. America cannot afford to lose Iraq, period. Anyone who does not support victory is not on their country's side.

Bush should quote these words to the Democrats at least once a week:

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty. This much we pledge—and more.

John F. Kennedy inaugural address, January 20, 1961

They (media and Dems) lost at least one war for us, they're trying for another. The modern media and Democrat leadership would have lost World War II for us too.

Amen to that. His is his own man who possesses real leadership. Leadership without polls. I love this President too and our country was so blessed to have him at the helm on 9-11. He will be sorely missed by those who count. He loves his military and they love him. God help them after President Bush leaves the White House. Any dem/lib in the oval office then will just be total chaos. Oh well, you can only tell people so long how wrong they are. They will have to see it for themselves once a dem/lib is in power. Look how Pelosi is screwing up already. She's a joke and a half ... they all are. Shame on the Republicans ... shame on them!!!

It's time for an "I support George Bush" March on Washington... all right thinking Americans should make the journey and show the press and the American People that Geo. Bush does not "stand alone" - there are millions out here who thank God every day that George Bush was elected President TWICE ! Millions who undertand the stakes at play in this war on terror and the stabilization of Iraq.
It's long past time American Muslims support the President who ordered the freeing of millions of Muslims who were oppressed and murdered by Saddam. And offerred freedom to people who only drempt of being free!
It's time the Iraqiis stood tall and once again demonstrated that they are willing to fight for their freedom - show they are willing to pay the price just as our brave soldiers paid to offer them a new existence.
It's time we protest the nay-sayers and dooms-day predictors who daily say the effort is lost - who don't understand we need to be in this for the long-run -- that our very way of life depends on fighting this fight.
It's time we protest the liberal media - stop buying their rags (Time - Newsweek - and most newspapers), let the advertisers of the media know we won't patronize them if the networks they advertis on continue to focus on the negative instead of objectively reporting on what has been accomplished and what needs to be accomplished and yes, report on the adverse set-backs. It's time they stop blinding the American people to the fact that America has done what no other nation has the nerve to do in a time in world history that calls for intestinal fortitude and courage. We may have slept while Hitler invaded Poland and Eastern Europe... but George Bush is not sleeping - not running from his responsibility because of political expediency and polling data. He stands tall, like the Texan and American he is - knowing he is doing what is right for America and the world...
It's time we shout loudly and proudly --- Thank God for George Bush !!

I don't care what some "conservatives" say. I love this man. I thank God he is our president. I agree ,he is a real leader like Washington and Lincoln, they were alone too.

Ditto!

We've stopped reading all those magazines years ago.
We've stopped watching the network news years ago.
We've never watched anything but Fox News Network and even now we dont' watch it but maybe once a week...MAYBE.
We still listen to our tried & tue patriot..Rush Limbaugh.

I would love to see a march in support of our President but...it won't happen. Sorry to say but...it won't.
