Stayner's brother actually became a sex offender himself, and was the one who killed and beheaded those women at Yellowstone. One of the things the psychiatrists cited when discussing him was the stressful situation of his family for years after his younger brother had been kidnapped. I have read that a murder has a direct negative effect upon the 50 people closest to the victim, and radiates out to affect a couple of hundred people indirectly. Kidnapping and sexual abuse do too, and I wish our legal system would take this into account.

Steven Stayner was told by Parnell that his family didn't want him anymore and had "given" him to Parnell. I have read that this is not unusual and a lot of sexually motivated kidnappers manage to get their victims to believe that their families don't want them back.

I'm wondering if this sicko's kidnapping of Ben saved Shawn's life, saved both their lives.
I've read about monsters who kidnap a child, then after a few years when the child gets too "old" they seek out a replacement... not a friend but a new child. Devlin may have thought Ben was younger than 13, and a close match to Shawn at age 11.
Whatever/however... it's a miracle, truly. These boys are safe now, prayers have been answered, and the monster will pay.
I believe that the time frame for Texas was since 2002, so I'm guessing he took Shawn with him???
One county of kidnapping that Devlin has been charged with is in the Ownby case (because of jurisdiction).
