Oh my gosh, I had no idea they were going to be on GMA this morning? What time and what time zone were they on? I totally misse it!

How unfortunate for Shawn's family to hear what we have been hearing from dumb BOR mouth and others! But she is absolutely right, Shawn is the victim!

I'm not even that concerned about the interviews. I don't know that I would have done the same thing in that situation, but Mr. Akers has impressed the heck out of me. I trust his call for his son. We both know very well that if they hadn't allowed him to give interviews, there would be all kinds of vicious gossip about the boy, the same way there continues to be unfounded gossip about Elizabeth Smart.

exactly! This is the way to get out their side of the story and defend their son quickly so as to put a stop to rumor!

I am in central time zone. For me it was 7:15 am. I just happen to catch it.

I agree. I was not real sure after I saw the interview yest. I thought perhaps they should not have had Shawn there. But after what I saw today on GMA, I feel it was the right decision on the parents part. The mom and dad this morning had a new countenance on their face. It was more of a look of determination rather than that of sadness. I believe some of the things Shawn told Oprah were the first time hearing it to Mom and Dad and it brought great healing for them. I also think it a good decision to get the interviews over with and out of the way, so the family can move on. These are good parents, good people. The last thing they want is to harm their son.

His innocence may be lost, but I believe this boy has a pure heart and that is what is important

In an interview with TODAY’s Ann Curry, portions of which were broadcast on Friday, Craig and Pamela Akers said their son, Shawn Hornbeck, told them he wants to become actively involved in the foundation they started in his name after his Oct. 6, 2002 disappearance. The Shawn Hornbeck Foundation helps educate children, parents and communities in preventing child abduction.

"When he told us that, the first thing we asked him is, 'Are you sure?' and his answer was 'Nobody knows what it is like unless you have been there,'" said Pam Akers, Shawn’s mother. "He has been there for four and a half years and he doesn't want anybody else to have to go through it again."

Listen, I heard a dog whimpering one night and I walked around that neighborhood until I found the house and it was not that hard.
It was just a puppy that was not in danger.

I am glad he is turning to the dad because he has solid male role model. Craig is the man

The things people are saying about Shawn are pi$$ing me off, I can't imagine my reaction if I was in "mother mode" for my child. Good for her and shame on the people for suggestion those things. The people on FR, "Uber Freepers" as I call them (people who claim that they and their children will do the prefect thing in every situation because we taught them to be vigilant, and they will always be armed and have their piece ready for action if anything bad should arise) can go to he!!.

LOL! "Uber Freepers!" I'll have to remember that one! They always do manage to come out after every tragedy to tell us how that would have never happened to them, don't they? They know it all. I think I referred to them as the Family Pharisees in a thread where they were blaming Natalee Holloway's tragedy on the fact that she wasn't raised properly.

There was a FReeper who the day of the Amish tragedy, said that this was another reason to homeschool and it would have never happened in their house. Well, unless s/he kept a .45 on the table while he was homeschooling or in a holster on his belt, it could happen in every home. And, if you live in an area where you think you need to keep a .45 with you at all times, it is time to move!!
