Well, we're closer to DC, where it all originates.
It's 36 I note where I live in Central Texas. I'm missing a cold blast. It will be here soon..but not as cold.
LOL!
ROFLOL!
DEETS! What's your indoor temp that you are bundles up with the furnace blastin?
It was near freezing here yesterday and folks were out with light slacks & sweatshirts, not unusual dress for around here.
Are you having a severe shortage?
Thank you, Luvvy...
I'm not either, but, like you, I like to be able to identify the ones I see around here. It's the same with plants that grow here. As far as birds go, between my Audubon Bird Guide and the internet, I have managed to identify most of those that are frequent visitors.
I saw a Killdeer a few years ago. I thought it was injured because it was flopping around like it's wing was broken. I thought I was going to have to rescue it, until I realized that it was all a big act in order to distract me from her nest! Isn't animal behavior interesting?
"If a predator approaches, a nesting Killdeer performs a conspicuous distraction display, dragging itself as if mortally wounded, often on one foot, its wings seemingly broken and its rusty tail fanned toward the intruder. This feigning of injury is effective in luring the predator away from the eggs or young, at which point the bird then "recovers" and flies off, calling loudly."
I don't know what the temp is inside, don't have a thermometer... old gas wall furnace, crummy insulation and LOUVRED windows... no matter how shut tight they are, cold air seeps in.
Weather Underground says it's 54F out... so, guess I'll pull on some shorts and go out...;^)
Severe is right! We haven't seen a 70 degree day since the first part of October. It's beginning to wear me down. :-(
You're welcome. Hope you are staying in and staying warm.
We have ice all over everything...here in West Texas! Go figure!
Didn't you get the word about plastic sheeting and duct tape oh so long ago?
That is cool!!
When I lived near the beach in Santa Monica, scrub jays visited our tiny backyard. One day, I took some bird seed out on a paper plate and set it on the picnic table. The scrub jay pecked at it, but the plate kept moving. She then stood there, looked at me and kept squawking until I got the message and dumped the bird seed off the plate onto the table where she could peck successfully.
Being bossed around by a jaybird.... what bliss!!! ;^)
Right, right, right ... when was that, just after 9/11, I think. The thing is, normally (99% of the time) there is no need for weather stripping in Los Angeles.
I suppose, by the time I would get some duct-taped plastic sheeting up, the temps would go back to normal. We're okay now, and last night I yanked a beautiful wool blanket out of the closet that kept me warm and snug.
To all the people who have ever told us to "Chill Out," are you happy now?!
Hahaha. (((LUV W)))
No kiddin'! LOL!
I am sure it will be back in the 60s or 70s this week, but it was a shocker to everyone. And of course we drive like crazy people in it because we simply don't know how to drive on ice here.
It's not like we're hockey players or anything, huh!
Now...I am off to take my Sunday nap. See ya later. (((hugs)))
That's rotten. Is this a record breaking pattern?
This is weird because my friend in CA always brags about his weather when it's winter here. I should've taken a clue when he stopped bragging.
This cold streak of yours must be costing everybody. Go east for a vacation, why don't you?
