BOISE STATE -- 2007 FOOTBALL BOWL SUBDIVISION NATIONAL CHAMPIONS !!
9 January 2007 | self

Posted on 01/09/2007 5:46:20 AM PST by PetroniDE

Time to make everyone in SEC country mad at me.

Boise St. 2007 Football Bowl Subdivision National Champions.

Here is some logic for you.

Florida lost to Auburn
Auburn lost to Arkansas
Arkansas lost to USC
USC lost to Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Boise State

Who did Boise State lose to this season? NOBODY !!

Save the argument about strength of schedule and "didn't play nobody". How many SEC teams play non-conference road games? Think any SEC teams would play Boise State (or any other non-BCS team) home and home?

Look at the BCS history and get back to me with how the SEC bowl history is and how many national titles they have won, or been in since its inception.

BCS CHampionship results:
1998 - Tennessee 23 FSU 16
1999 - FSU 46 Va Tech 29
2000 - Oklahoma 13 FSU 2
2001 - Miami 37 Nebraska 14
2002 - Ohio State 31 Miami 24
2003 - LSU 21 Oklahoma 14
2004 - USC 55 Oklahoma 19
2005 - Texas 41 USC 38
2006 - Florida 41 Ohio St 14

IOW the SEC is UNDEFEATED when playing in the BCS Championship Game. No other conference is over .500 in the BCS Championship.

SEC 3-0 1.000
PAC-10 1-1 .500
BIG-10 1-1 .500
BIG-12 2-3 .400
ACC 1-2 .333
Big East 1-2 .333 (Miami and Va Tech were Big East teams when they played in the BCS CH game)

--They are no better then any other one time loser out there including the Buckeyes.--

I think last night showed that the Gators are a LOT better than the Buckeyes.

Hey, watch this --- I was born in Massachusetts !!! --- INCOMING --- ROFLOL

Oh the irony. So was I. :-)

I knew this thread would be a live one. In Texas, we have a large contingent of LSU alumni. Here, the letters S-E-C do not stand for securities and exchange commission.

We need playoffs. Even Urban Meyer agrees.

But keep in mind that BSU would have to repeat their Fiesta Bowl performance at least three times to win it all in a playoff system.

As a Gator fan, my hats are off to Boise State for a great season and the most entertaining bowl game of the year. However, when arguing that you beat everyone you played it does matter to look at WHO you played. There are a few local pee-wee football teams that went undefeated as did a local high school team but they can't claim to be national champions. Why? Because of WHO they played. Look at the records of the teams that Boise State beat and the quality of their opponents. Boise State needed multiple trick plays to come from behind and beat a mediocre team in their bowl game. Sorry, it was a good season and I would agree that they should have been given a chance to play in a playoff format, but under the current system it cannot be said that Boise State was the better team just because of their record.

This system stinks. What is needed is a playoff.

Why is that "needed"? Universities do not exist merely to provide sports fans another spectacle to watch.

But I agree with you that the system stinks. What is needed is for the colleges and universities to get out of the business of fielding farm teams for the NFL and NBA.

I have the fix for this crap....

Stop using the BCS entirely and get back to basics. College football is a amateur sport. You cannot treat it like a professional entity.

Scrap the BCS and anything that resembles a Nation champion and return the entire mess to amateur status and treatment. There should be no national or regional champs, just the obligatory conference competition and no competition between conferences.

No i am not an Ohio State fan , i did not have a dog in that hunt. Ohio state will reload believe me I know they beat us 5 out of 6 games we played them. Every team has a bad night and they got their turn in the pile. Could care less who won. I am a Michigan fan period. I was one before you even knew how to spell football and I will be one after you no longer watch the game. I do not like Tressel and he got his come unpins last night. Same thing will happen to Fl , maybe even next year, they are losing leek . the game is over the victors celebrate , but don't rub it in because you may be on the losing end of the pile. it happened to Ohio State. It will happen to fl.have fun today it is your day, but remember tomorrow starts another day.

A team that wins the regular conference schedule shouldn't have to win it again by winning a post-season tournament.

The problem with that is a conference like the SEC. This year is a great example. We have 12 schools. We're divided into the East and Western division. Each school plays every team in their division, plus 3 teams from the opposite. So, no team plays every team every year. So, you get situations like this year where Arkansas and Florida both had one loss in regular season SEC play, but they hadn't played each other. The SEC championship game was the only fair way to settle that.

"The Big 10 has no conference championship game, and they can't have 1 until they add a 12th team."

Good for them; conference championship games and post-season tournaments cheapen the regular season. Why should a team have to win their conference twice? It's all greed and corruption. I think some Southern yahoo thought up these post-season conference championships.

How many SEC teams play non-conference road games?

That statement wasn't a knock on SEC scheduling. All the big schools play 3/4 or all OOC games at home. I understand the money factor.

Of the twelve games Texas played, they had only three real road games (the game "at Rice" was a pseduo-home games). Sometimes the Big XII is worse in this respect.

We have a guy in the office from Southern Miss and he is always stating that if USM ever got a shot at Ole Miss/MSU (even road shots only), they would crush them.

I am not a Gator fan. I despise the Handbags, but only when they're playing my Miami Hurricanes, who by the way, are in deep in Study Hall right about now....

Canes Training Camp...

The fact is, the Gators spanked the consensus national champions last night, and deserved to be Number One. BSU, much as I admire what they have achieved and can achieve in the future, deserve to be ranked third, at most.

USC should be ranked second, imho, w/ LSU at third, and BSU fourth.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

For some reason I keep thinking that the BCS's first game was in 1997. Funny though that both Florida(1996) and Tennessee(1998) won the national title a year after they were smoked by Nebraska in the previous years National Title game.

Here's my system.

All the small conference champions (WAC,MAC,Mountain West,C-USA,Sun Belt,Big East) play a mini-tournament during December to decide who gets to advance to play the big boys in January.

Then you take that winner and throw in the major conference champions. I think you have to limit it to eight teams. So you would have the following eight teams, start play the first week of January:

Small Conference Tournament Champion
ACC Champ
SEC Champ
Big Ten Champ
Big 12 Champ
Pac 10 Champ
At Large 1
At Large 2

"We have 12 schools. We're divided into the East and Western division."

That's the problem right there; twelve schools is too many. When every team can't play every other team, it isn't a conference. And I'm enough of an old fud that I think it's ludicrous for a conference with 11 teams to call itself the Big Ten.

It doesnt cheapen nothing, it validates everything. Especially if your team has the same conference record as another team. What good is it to say you are co-champions, like the Pac-10 had this year.

They were still undefeated Fl was not.But don't worry that sickening Fl coach will moan and groan and complain he is number one. Be careful with a coach like him he is going to make a lot of enemys for Fl, seen it before with Jimmy Johnson and others.

Well, as much as I was rooting for OSU last night as a Big Ten team, that's all off the table tonight.

Wisconsin Badgers (#4) at home against OSU (#5) tonight on ESPN. Gonna be a hell of a basketball game. Go Badgers.

They can have a playoff with a true NC and not need to make major changes to the current football system as it stands. The biggest change is elimination/emphasis reduction of opinion polls.

The "boat has sailed" regarding NFL/NBA. Without football/men's college basketball, colleges and universities would be in even worse shape financially than they are now.
