Small dogs are some of the most vicious I've ever seen. Not all. Depends on the breed. Pugs are pudgy little sweethearts. Boston Terriers will play until they drop.

I agree- Pugs are great (even though they're not my type). Boston Terriers are OK. But I can't help it-- I like 'em the bigger the better. :-)

Well, my philosophy is this: If you can make money having fun, thats great.
But, if you can make enough money to buy MORE fun, that is even better.
If you get paid well, you should do it. Just be like Amazon. Have good service, but NEVER let them get you on the phone.
My response is a quote my father always pounded us with:
It is not doing the thing we like to do, but liking the thing we have to do, that makes life blessed.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I'm not sure that the Goethe quote conflicts in any way with your philosophy, but it does have the value of being shorter <g>

I like Alton Brown too, but he does get long-winded sometimes. I recently watched his show on puff pastry, because I am determined to do a Beef Wellington ala-Gordon Ramsay, but I swear, Brown talks so much, you can barely focus on the FOOD sometimes. I dont need to know the origin of the rice molecule, or that Eskimos were the first to bottle water, I just want to learn to COOK.Then don't watch AB as a primary source, watch Rachel Ray, Giada De Laurentiis, "Semi Home Made" with Sandra Lee or (my favorite in this category) Michael Chiarello's stuff. AB is about the "why," not so much the "how." Personally I prefer his approach for entertainment and education but I mostly watch the others for ideas to use when I cook.
AB started out as a film maker, producing award winning rock video's, before he decided that there was a niche not being met on TV in terms of "Mister Wizard meets Julia Childs." He put his life on hold and he and his wife went off to the back woods of somewhere (Vermont?) to a culinary institute to learn to be a chef. His idea was always to do the type of show he is doing. Now that's an enterpreneur I can get behind!
I've probably learned more "how to" stuff from the others I mentioned but the "why to" stuff from AB's shows have provided more insight that make me able to decide how I want to adapt the recipes and "formulas" I've seen others present.
If I win the lottery (Powerball is $131 million this Wednesday) I will engage AB's production company to document my move from lower middle class (according to the Dhimmicarts I'm one of the evil filthy rich, but I know better) to the realm of the upper middle class (let's be real, "$131 million" in lotto terms is under $40 million after taxes as a cash option and boy do I have relatives!) but then I'd look to folks like Michael Chiarello or Rachel Ray to learn how to cook (not be a "chef"... how to cook!) and I'd expect AB to help explain it to me.
Just to let you know, I have a spread sheet for how I disperse the Powerball Lottery winnings when (not if) I win. FR gets a "modest" contribution each donation cycle (if I win) that should shorten the FReepaton. Really... I promise!

Any woman in my age range who is not married by now, is simply crazy. Just damn! You are so doomed!
You would think a naval aviator would be smart enough not to put a thought like that into print! Plus, unless you have completely lost the bubble, that is the most negative comment I've ever heard from someone with as low a drift factor as you have <g> (I had to look up appropriate terms as I'm not a naval aviator or any form of vet, but I do explicitly honor your service and hope I didn't screw up in posting this!)

Not at all. Crazy women are better in bed anyway, and they know it. The comment is not negative, it is descriptive. Crazy is not bad, if you understand 'Crazy'. Angry women will take it the wrong way. Crazy (but pleasant women will nod their heads in agreement. Besides, women are wired for marriage, and without it, craziness is inevitable.

Frankly, my favorite is Ina, The Barefoot Contessa. Not only are her recipes doable but her show is just so pretty and I love Jeffrey.Ina Garten worked in the Ford White House on budget and energy issues and was a senior policy adviser on energy issues to Jimmy Carter. We can probably thank her for brainstorms like the 55 MPH speed limit and turning down the thermostat and wearing sweaters as the answer to the 70's "energy crisis." Her husband, Jeffrey Garten, was a State Department type and was Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade under Clinton. That means he probably helped arrange the "transfers" from Los Alamos to China in exchange for the Buddhist Temple fund raiser for Al Gore.

WOW, I love the Veep's dogs-- the yellow lab looks just like my Rowley (light, almost white coat and dark ears)! Sorry W-- Cheney's dogs are so much nicer than Barney! IMHO ;-)
The Cheney's dogs are better ranch dogs. It really isn't fair to keep a large dog in an urban or suburban setting where you don't have a good bit of land. They are meant to be outside, running, hunting, working with their people.
Barney and dogs like him are better for city and suburb. They're house dogs. And they're great for catching rats, too.

altura
- #195; "All I can say is, 'Hillary has a mom?' ... Who knew?" (Note: response to anita's post #17, and it is wicked, evil, nasty and very, very funny!)
- #401; "Snugs, this seems to have officially become a 'dog' thread. ... Thanks for the pictures of dear old Spot. ... I guess a dog thread is appropriate since these Sunday shows have become dogs and feature dogs. ... Sorry for the insult to dogs."
Arizona Carolyn
- #426; "I guess it's no worse than the ditz on FOX this morning saying the voters gave the Dems a mandate on November 7th. It had me screaming at the screen.... they barely have a hold on the Senate by one vote and not too much more in the Congress and they call it a 'mandate.' ... Currently, they are drunk with power, but wait until they start raising taxes, on the middle class. for pay-go and then see how the American Public feels about them. ... John Kasic started out being really nice to Martin Frost when both were guests on FOX yesterday, but by the end he was spitting bullets because Frost said the upper eschelon needed to pay more in taxes, Kasic asked isn't 50% enought, you want more? Frost is telling him he's a crybaby and only paid 32% to which Kasic is turning red and telling him then he needs to add in state taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, etc., and it's easily 50% or more.... then they cut them both off."
Carolinamom
- #82; "It's a pity the Capitol police don't have SWI (Speaking while intoxicated) law to enforce. ... With 100 Senators and over 500 Representatives, why do the Sunday shows always have the same old faces and voices? Their stances are reliable as Old Faithful's gushing."
chiller
- #122; "Biden has no idea that his over-enunciation is a huge turn-off to the people he's trying to win over. He might as well say; 'You're stupid and incapable of understanding intelligent thought.' ... Condescenion on that order should play well in his presidential campaign, don'tcha' think?" - #262; "... I heard Tim Russert say, and I paraphrase, "Now that the Dem's are in charge of congress and we have REAL oversight"...yada, yada. ... Folks, is this not damning in just the phrasing? "REAL" oversight? What's the implication here? The Republicans weren't doing oversight? How's the average Joe going to interpret that loaded statement? ... I also heard with mine own lying ears, Joe Biden, AKA Hairplugs, respond to Russert's questions re Pelosi and Reid's letter to the President re Iraq, that it was, and I quote exactly here, a "RED HERRING". Come on, ladies and gems, a member of their own party is admitting the letter is a load of crap! ..."
- #278; "... I am a Delawarean. Not necessarily proud of it, understand, but Biden is mine own senator and hey, just this past November, Delawareans elected, get this, BEAU BIDEN, as state Attorney General. ... He's reproduced, folks, and you're not done hearing from him yet. ...He may be our next President, one never knows. ..."
- #286; "I also heard Biden say, and I paraphrase, that the ONLY way to win this war is to negotiate with Iran and Syria. ... I must pray that this guy is never elected President."

HawaiianGecko
- #222; "Biden is talking in circles. In July 2006, the date of Bush's press conference just shown on MTP, Biden was condemning the President for 'staying the course and not having enough troops.' Today, the President essentially is 'changing the course, adding troops' and Biden is still condemning him. ... The man is a born liar and living proof that Democrats stand for nothing except being Anti-Bush. If Bush tried to appoint Hillary Clinton to the USSC, they'd vote her down."

OldFriend
- #50; "The lineup is so pathetic I think I'll put my tree back up!" (Note: nominated for an honorable mention award by Getsmart64 in post #398)
- #75; "I am less concerned with the nice nice talk than what is actually done! I don't see McConnell as a pushover. ... Playing the game for the sheeple is all." (Note: response to maica's post #66)
- #80; "Whatever Biden is smoking, it's clearly illegal." (Note: in response to Bahbah's post #71)
Pukin Dog
- #43; "Yep, this is where I come to find out what happened, without having to look at the face of Lindsey Graham, and getting all pissed off. He gives closets a bad name."
- #49; "Yes, is it going to be fun watching the Dems pander to Cindy Sheehan this year, just so they can say they TRIED to do what the moonbats want, instead of just admitting that they still dont have the power to force the President to do anything."
Right_in_Virginia
- #85;"Hoyer: There will be 15 hearings over the next few weeks on Iraq. ... Words fail me."
roses of sharon
- #294; "Did McConnell say anything interesting this morning? ... Because the Anti-American Nancy just made headlines by telling our enemies in Iraq to hold on, and that the US President will soon defeated by defunding our military in Iraq. ... McConnell needs to be a ruthless SOB, not civil, (been there, done that)."
samantha
- #405; "#386, I am sorry I missed all the fun today also. That picture of Timmah looks like what the Rats are going through now trying to figure out how to be Communist/Socialists Anti American Pro-Terrorist without being obvious. They are turning somersaults trying to spin their agenda to suit the Voter choices in November. As usual they are tone deaf, and got it wrong, but that matters not to them, they do not care they will try to jam through their leftist. hateful agenda through the back door if they have to. I missed all the shows and all this thread, RA is not being kind to me today takes half a day just to be able to make a fist, and walk like someone besides Herman Munster. I have lots of catching up to do..." (Note: response to AliVeritas' post #386 with an animated GIF of Tim Russert's head spinning)
STARWISE
- #387; "Before he was elected Attorney General of Delaware, Beau Biden's position was used by his father, "Plugs," who didn't hesitate to bloviate and fudge the truth, but he may have raised a son who gives it back to him. Biden's been known to shamelessly use his son's status in some of his ramblings about the Geneva Conventions discussions ..leading folks to believe Beau was active duty. ... Fact is, his son Beau was in the Delaware National Guard .. doing stateside work as a judge advocate!!! ... Remember that the next time you hear his faux outrage about anything .... I think Beau must've dressed him down, and good for him. ... And Michelle didn't miss it. ... JOE BIDEN IS A WEASEL ... By Michelle Malkin · June 14, 2004 ... <snip> ... How low can you go, Joe???" VictoryGal
- #267; "It is really really odd (though I guess not for the Drive-By-Media) to not have Lieberman and McCain on the shows today. The surge is by far the top story, and they don't have the two most visible proponents of it on the shows? Bah. I bet all these guys would rather make today a big Bela Pelosi lovefest. ... I wish McC & L WERE on for some questions. I'm concerned that I hear from some news rumblings that the military can only muster 9,000 for the surge-- this concerns me-- they need to increase significantly and tell 'em to take the gloves off and no reprisals. What good is even 100,000 more troops if they're not allowed to do their job? Tough times for the troops-- I'm praying as hard as I can these days."
- #289; "... I just wonder how much McCain is doing it to win the GOP base back. I would trust Lieberman more, and I don't trust him either."
- #322; "... The great thing about the anti-war crowd is that they carry the seeds of their own destruction. Did you see the slag Sheehan and her minions messing up a Dim press conference the other day? Made me feel all warm and fuzzy."
zook
- #292; "I've basically stopped watching the news. It isn't really even 'news' anymore. ... You know where I've started hearing the most in-depth and balanced newscasts? On the Chinese English service short-wave radio. They give you dozens of stories from the US and around the world, and they're really quite balanced in the presentation."
And two Special "it is interesting but has nothing to do with the Sunday Shows" Merit Awards to:
- Fishtalk, Pukin Dog and several others for the discussions of cooking stuff, particularly the bits about Alton Brown.
- snugs, Fishtalk and a
host pack of others for the discussion about dogs
The Top Ten will be posted shortly. Sorry for the delay. I had problems with a stitch this week and could only read for about 10 minutes at a time. I only finished reading all of the posts this morning. Hey, I'm slow but still annoying!
