Speaking to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Yadlin said that those detained were ideological workers of Al-Qaida who were interested in creating a base of operations in Nablus. He estimated that Al-Qaida operatives in the area currently number between ten and one hundred.

"Muslims must grow in strength... then take over."
A 10-month undercover investigation into home-grown extremism has revealed hard-line Islamic fundamentalism being preached in British mosques.
Some speakers call for girls to be hit if they don't wear Islamic dress and say that they can marry before puberty, others praise the Taliban.
Speaking at the Ahl-e-Hadith mosque, in Derby, Dr Mian tells his listeners: "You are in a situation in which you have to live like a state-within-a-state - until you take over.
"But until this happens, you have to preach, until you become such a force that the people just submit to you."
Dr Mian wants to see religious policemen roaming our streets, modelled on the feared Saudi Arabian force.
He says of their strict implementation of Sharia - or Islamic - law: "They send the police and they say: 'Well, if you don't come for prayer, we will arrest you. But if you still don't, then we have to bring the punishment on you - you will be killed and nobody will pray for you.'"

BERLIN - A bomb scare had the rear parking lots of a Taco Bell and Pep Boys automotive store on the Berlin Turnpike shut down Wednesday afternoon as officials examined a white Buick Century believed to have contained a bomb. At around 5:30 p.m., Berlin police officers and firefighters had put up police tape around the parking lot behind the Taco Bell restaurant near Rowley Street and were investigating what was believed to have been a bomb that detonated inside the vehicle.
"Somebody put some explosive devices in there and blew it up," said Berlin Police Capt. Larry Schubert. The windows of the vehicle were cracked and there was a fire inside the car, Schubert explained. "We put the fire out," he said. "We have one person in custody who admitted being a part of this and there'll be more arrests to be made because there's more than one person involved."
Police didn't release the name of the person arrested. The state Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene to make sure there was nothing else inside the vehicle, Schubert said. A bomb squad official dressed in protective gear searched the car with a flashlight. About an hour later, fire marshals and the bomb squad declared the scene was once again safe.
Officials are continuing to investigate why the bomb was detonated and what types of explosives were used. "It's too early in the investigation to find out," Schubert said.

Authorities on lookout for stolen trailer containing explosives (Georgia)

Authorities were on the lookout Wednesday for a trailer containing 100 pounds of explosives stolen from a Henry County construction site.
McDonough Police say sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, a trailer containing construction equipment and 100 pounds of gunpowder was stolen from a construction area behind the Henry County Courthouse.
A worker with Faith Technologies, an electrical contractor working on the renovation of the 110-year-old courthouse, told police the trailer contained a number of small canisters loaded with gunpowder used to charge a welding machine. The cargo trailer, a 2000 Pace trailer registered to Jimmy Spang of Jasper, Ga., also contained more than $3,600 in construction equipment, including 16 500-foot rolls of copper wire, according to a police report. The wire alone was valued at $800, the report said.
McDonough Police Detective Scott said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was notified of the theft and a description of the trailer, which had a Faith Technologies company logo on the back, was given to authorities in the area. “We’re pretty sure that whoever stole it did not know of the gunpowder and they were stealing the trailer for the tools,” Zebrowski said. “Hopefully, we’ll come across the trailer shortly,” he said.

Bomb Scare Evacuation (UK)

Police evacuated part of the city of London financial district near the Bank of England on Thursday because of a suspect package near a Turkish bank. "We were alerted to the incident shortly after 3.30 p.m. and officers are on the scene," a spokesman for the City of London police said.
He said the suspect package was on Prince's Street which is next to the Bank of England. He did not name the Turkish bank.

Sydney Muslim leader Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly has set off a new controversy, claiming Muslims have more right to be in Australia than the descendants of convicts. On Arabic television, he said westerners were the world's biggest liars and accused the media of trying to bring him down.
The sheik was invited to appear on Egyptian television to explain his sermon comparing women who show some skin, to uncovered pieces of meat that invite predators.
At the time, Sheikh al Hilaly claimed his comments were taken out of context, but on Today in Cairo he defended the remarks, blaming the media for the national outcry. "This is a calculated conspiracy aimed at terrorising our Islamic community, aimed at me first in order to bring the Islamic community to its knees," Sheik Hilaly said in Arabic. He went further, claiming Muslims had more right to be in Australia than the ancestors of convicts.
...Yes, of course, moslems are an alien body in our midst. Every day in London - on the tube, in shops, in parks, whilst shopping, whilst going about the 101 tasks that make up an average life - this is borne in on me.
In London today moslems dress differently, are rude to locals, jump queues, shout at us, wave their fists at us, call us 'worthless infidel' in public and in loud voices. I have, just four days ago, been elbowed aside by a moslem couple, with sidekicks, whilst trying to top up my Oyster card at a tube station at the automatic machine. Apparently, I had taken longer than the ten seconds that they were prepared to wait and so three burly males forced me aside and, when I objected, pushed me to the floor and - quite literally - and took over the machine which I was attempting to use.
Not, in a crowded and impatient city like London that this was a surprise, but that in this instance that I was insulted by these people was a surprise. The eldest male in the group, dressed in the usual and ridiculous garb of mohammedans everywhere, looked directly at me amd said, in quite clear English, (and I quote verbatim) "Get out of our way infidel slave".
You may imagine how I felt at that moment. To be so insulted in my own capital city was stunning. It took all my self-control not to do something rash at that moment.
Knowing that CCTV cameras would have captured this incident I complained, some three hours later (after having completed my journey and return), to the British Transport Police on the Broadway. I need not have bothered. Not only would no-one there take my complaint of 'technical assault and insult' seriously but no-one to whom I spoke was even prepared to initiate any paperwork whatsoever nor were they remotely prepared to find and look at the video recordings. Indeed, one Officer even said to me that I 'should swallow my pride' and live with it because - and, once again, I quote verbatim 'you are just being racist and you have to remember that it's cultural with them'.
Obviously, at this point, I indicated that I felt that I had been physically assaulted and that I would really like to have my complaint investigated. Well, this is really where everything about that evening begins to stick in my craw. When I said that, the Officer of the BTP who was listening to me actually cautioned me and warned me that if I persisted with making a nuisance of myself I would be charged under the The Race Relations Act 1976 and the RRAA (Race Relations (Amendment) Act) 2000.
I gave up at this point. Cowardice is sometimes the better part of valour. But, damn it, they won, didn't they? I have been intimidated into a dhimmi position by them and the very powers which should have protected me in my own country.

Islamabad, 11 Jan. 2007 - The Afghan insurgent leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has said in an interview broadcast on Thursday on Pakistani television channel GEO TV, that his fighters had helped al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden escape from US forces in 2001 in the Tora Bora mountain ranges in Afghanistan. Hekmatyar, a former Afghan prime minister in 1992 and leader of the Hezb-e-Islami militant group, said in the interview that when the US forces began their operation in Tora Bora in 2001, some of his fighters moved bin Laden, al-Qaeda's No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri and other associates to "a safe place" where he met them later. The US in 2003 labelled Hekmatyar a wanted global terrorist.
GEO TV did not disclose where or when the interview was conducted. Hekmatyar was speaking in the Pashto language, and the interview was dubbed over in Urdu, Pakistan's main language.
The Afghan insurgent leader, whose whearabouts are unknown, also did not specify where the "safe place" his fighters brought the al-Qaeda leaders. He also said that he no longer had links with the terrorist network.
He also stressed that foreign troops have to leave Afghanistan before the conflict in the country can be solved politically. Reports say that Hekmatyar's fighters are active in eastern Afghanistan along the Pakistani border.

Yemen: Authorities Fear Infiltration By Al-Qaeda Operatives From Somalia
Sanaa, 11 Jan. 2007 - Yemeni navy warships are patrolling the Somali coast with the particular task of intercepting al-Qaeda operatives and Islamist fighters believed to have fled from Somalia after their routing there this month by Ethiopian and Somali government troops and the United States military's airstrikes this week in the south. The conflict in Somalia is greatly worrying the Yemeni authorities, who view it as a possible threat to national security, the Saudi al-Watan newspaper reports.
The Yemeni secret services have alerted their Saudi counterparts to an alleged plan by Islamist terrorists to rearm with Katushka rockets and carry out an attack on a Red Sea locality, al-Watan said.

The Task Force on Future Terrorism formed by the Homeland Security's Advisory Council (HSAC) released its findings today in Washington DC, in the presence of Secretary Chertoff, other US leaders and the media. In his remarks, Task Force chairman Lee Hamilton said the group expect al Qaeda and other Islamic radicals to continue to attempt to attack the US. He said motivations behind these potential attacks are "complex" and include extremist ideologies. He added that while it is impossible to predict with precisions, three elements are to be taken into consideration: Terrorists leadership, political and economic reform in the Muslim world and safe havens (as in Pakistan). Frank Cilluffo, the vice chairman of the Task Force said "home and prison radicalization is very important" in the growth of the threat. He mentioned that a "lexicon" has to be established to engage in the "battle of ideas."
The findings, as announced today, include a variety of assessments and recommendations. It is important that the community of counter terrorism experts review the findings and evaluate it, as they are now a basis for a policy discussion at the level of Government. Two CTB members were consulted during the research sessions: Steve Emerson and myself. Among the points raised by HSAC are the following issues related to the War of Ideas, along with my comments :
1) "There is every indication that the number and magnitude of attacks on the U.S., its interests and its allies will likely increase.".
Comment: It would be important for the CT community to begin working on the parameters of this projection: the almost certainty that the magnitude of attacks will increase.

NAIROBI - Kenyan police on Thursday interrogated two al Qaeda suspects' wives caught fleeing Somalia, as mystery remained over whether their husbands survived a U.S. air strike.
The United States on Monday hit a village in southern Somalia in an attempt to take out an al Qaeda cell accused of bombing two U.S. embassies and an Israeli-owned hotel. U.S. ally Ethiopia continued air attacks in Somalia on Tuesday and Wednesday in pursuit of fleeing Islamist fighters, but the Pentagon denied it had mounted more strikes. The success of the attacks remains unclear although Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said eight "terrorists" were killed in the U.S. strike.
A Kenyan counter-terrorism source said the wives and three children of two al Qaeda suspects, wanted for the 1998 embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania and a 2002 hotel blast on the Kenyan coast, had been arrested. Unconfirmed reports say one of three al Qaeda suspects -- Comorian Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, Sudanese Abu Talha al-Sudani and Kenyan Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan -- was killed. But it was not known which one.
Mohammed and Nabhan's wives and children were caught trying to cross into Kenya from Ras Kamboni, on Somalia's southern tip, long thought by Western and east African intelligence agencies to be the site of a militant training camp. "They were arrested on Monday at Kiunga. They headed for Nairobi today in a police chopper for questioning," the counter-terrorism source told Reuters.

WASHINGTON - Al Qaeda's leaders are holed up in a secure hide-out in Pakistan, from which they are revitalizing their bruised but resilient network, U.S. intelligence chief John Negroponte said on Thursday.
In an unusually direct statement on the whereabouts of the militant group's top echelon, Negroponte told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that Pakistan is the center of a web of al Qaeda connections that stretches across the globe into Europe.
