You truly know nothing about Thailand. There is ONE Muslim General. The army is over 90 oercent Buddhist as is most of the country.

Please learn something if you feel you must comment.

" Please learn something if you feel you must comment. "

You're right...

Having gotten most of my information here on FR and, secondarily, from US media sources, I acknowledge the boundless depths of my ignorance.

I bow to your immensely greater knowledge.

Actually, there's one Muslim general but he's the leader, and one of his announced priorities was to "rethink" the pacification efforts directed at the Muslim radicals in a particular area and drop the military approach.

You'd think this would make them calm down, since it would seem they'd gotten what they wanted, but obviously, they don't feel they've gotten enough yet. ETA set off its bomb in Madrid yesterday while the Spanish government had essentially announced that it was laying off the hard line and "negotiating" with them. Shows you the foolishness of "negotiating" with terrorists. They interpret it as weakness and redouble their efforts.

He posted his comment in the form of a question, and I assume, was trying to learn something. If you have information please share but skip the condescension.

The army is over 90 percent Buddhist as is most of the country.

Thailand has had an ongoing Islamist insurgent problem for years, in spite of its majority Buddhist population.

The Muslim General in question, Sonthi Boonyaratglin, opposed the hard-line tactics of former PM Shinawatra in favor of open negotiations with the terrorists. The coup was publicly praised by Islamist separatist leaders in the south.

Thailand is in the cross hairs of the global jihad. It may be that only 6% of the population is Muslim, but when you look at the widespread havoc created by that 6% in the southern region that they have taken over, you should shudder to think what Thailand will be when (not if) that 6% becomes 12%, and so on.

What's happening in Thailand is serious business. And today's bombings in Bangkok (the gateway to the Muslim south) are another symptom of the problem... and a sign of much bigger problems to come.

Most of us are aware the Muslims are a minority in Thailand. Many of us are also aware that Muslims have a habit of using violence and threat of violence, even when they are a minority, to bend the majority to their will

A tightly organized 10% who are willing to fight, can dominate ten times their number if the larger group is not cohesively organized. During the time of Muslim expansion in their first few centuries, their favorite tactic was to exploit factionalism in their enemies, making promises to one group in exchange for being allowed to gobble up another group

In this context, I could see the Thai Muslims making alliance with Thai Communists to obstruct actions against Muslims, and maybe use Communist networks up north to facilitate terrorism
