The Drop Broke Saddam's neck killing him instantly. At the executions following the Nuremberg Trials others were not so lucky.
THE TRIAL OF THE CENTURY--AND OF ALL TIME, PART TWO
"..The executions, in a brightly lighted prison gymnasium where three looming black wooden gallows had been erected, were witnessed by a handful of Allied military officers and eight journalists, one of whom, Kingsbury Smith of International News Service, wrote a famous newspaper article, "The Execution of Nazi War Criminals, 16 October 1946," based on his eyewitness observations. Although Smith discreetly omitted mentioning it, the experienced Army hangman, Master Sgt. John C. Woods, botched the executions. A number of the hanged Nazis died, not quickly from a broken neck as intended, but agonizingly from slow strangulation. Ribbentrop and Sauckel each took 14 minutes to choke to death, while Keitel, whose death was the most painful, struggled for 24 minutes at the end of the rope before expiring..."
So true. In the short term, we become a police-state. In the long-term, we no longer represent the country once founded.
Short term gains are not worth overthrowing liberty. Screw those that embrace the notion.
Amen
In order for the GOP to have a majority, some of those elected MUST, out of necessity, be liberal Republicans. Their districts will NEVER elect a moderate; let alone a so far off to the righty, that they're falling over that cliff.
And just WHAT country is it, that you yearn to get back? Did it EVER really exist outside of your fetid imaginings? I doubt that!
Overnight? Nothing gets done "overnight" in American politics/government; NOTHING!
Thank God one more murderous tyrant is gone! Thank God for President Bush and our magnificent armed forces! And thank God for the voters and patriotic supporters who keep their eyes on the ball and don't quit in the face of adversity. One more down, several more to go.
Oh, it still is. Some people are just having a bad day for some reason. It's best sometimes to help them work it out of their system. It helps free up their inner rage so they don't get sick later. Debating can be good medicine. It's a favor thing.
Last I heard, the Iraqis were celebrating. They're going to have a good holiday today. I hope there's film footage of the party.
It's late here, and I don't think they're going to air any party footage tonight. I'm tiring, and I think I'll stop watching. Maybe in the morning they'll have some.
Enjoy the party, FR friend. Victories like this don't come often.
You stated that your son was in the military.
Why won't you tell us what branch?
Is it true?
Jim, was it 3 down tonight? I wasn't able to get to a TV, but I saw somewhere it was also Saddam's half-brother and a judge.
My son, a U. S. Marine, is home for Christmas and the New Year after serving in Iraq. His tour is done, but he saw and experienced things he shouldn't have had to. I prayed thousands of times, "Please spare his life." And, he is alive.
Saddam is dead.
My son is alive.
I wonder how long it will be before we hear the words: "Saddam wasn't executed by the Iraqis he was assasinated by Bush!" comming out of the mouths of certain nutjob liberals.
I think most soldiers could relate to that "twinge of guilt" you're talking about. Our son is a civilian now but he keeps in contact with his battle buddies on a regular basis. He served for 8 years.
I've thought of how different the future could have been if the UN had allowed us to topple Saddam after Desert Storm. But so it goes....water meet bridge. I never dreamed that some day our son would go to war against the same monster he saw on television while playing with his little army men as a child.
You must be feeling such intense satisfaction tonight knowing that in a way, the mission you went on so many years ago was finished tonight.
Go pester somebody else.
We're at our daughter's as well and I'm on my handy dandy laptop, which was brought with us.LOL
There are T.V.s ( with cable ) in most rooms, but I've been consigned to the formal dining room, because I smoke.........and there's NO T.V. in it. So, it's either watch T.V., or be on FR. :-(
One down...dozens to go.
We ought to mail pieces of Saddam to various 'royal palaces' around the ME as a subtle reminder.
L
Before I would be so gleeful to the fact that Saddam Hussein has met his just fate, I would ponder the fact that here in the United States, we cannot or will not carry out the same justice on serial killers, baby/child rapers and traitors to our country.
Holy cow! Who accused YOU of that?

I'll keep trying, though. I'll still be a happy person anyway. If I do my best to get our free "politically incorrect" country back, no one can ask me for more than that, right?
I'm conservative/conservative, and very, very proud of it.
How was your Christmas, my FRiend? :-)
Hi Chena!
You have been missed. Prayers for our brave troops and for the GOOD people of Iraq. If only the insurgents from Iran could be eliminated, Iraq would have a fighting chance at peace.
Someone having a bad day.
Come to think of it, I think you did once recently too! lol
