It isn't about what he deserves. It's about what the country and the region and the world need. I don't pull the legs off of cockroaches or the wings off of flies -- I just squash them, so they're gone and forgotten. I wipe my shoe on the doormat and go on my merry way.
Saddam has been a malignancy on Iraq for three decades. You don't tease a tumor. You don't taunt it or torture it or call it nasty names. You just cut it out, examine it, and then throw it into an incinerator.
I don't think he should be allowed to die by hanging. String him from a thin rope so that it just breaks under the weight of his body. He falls onto the floor and dislocates a couple of upper spinal discs. Then let it 'ripen' for a week till it suffers from inflamation, edema (fluid accumulation), swelling, excruciating pain and he is unable to turn his head. Now have a prison guard grab him by the neck and move him around a little. Repeat 'botched hanging' after a month. And yeah, no pillows. He sleeps in his cell on a hard stone floor.
All it takes is a miscalculation in his body wieght of 7-10 lbs. and you'll get a dangler...
Cut the last meal, and that may do it...

I remember seeing a video of a hanging where they intentionally put the knot on the side of the neck with the one to be hanged standing on the tailgate of a truck. When the truck drove away slowly the person's neck was not broken and left to torment until death. The hood came off and they could watch their own hanging. This is how he should die.
How about a screwed up lethal injection?
