Retooled immigration legislation that could get a vote in Congress by spring amounts to "amnesty" for millions of undocumented workers, Rep. Peter King (R-L.I.) fumed yesterday.
"I just have no support for this at all," King told The Post. "This is clearly amnesty."
King was responding to word that a bipartisan bill is being prepared for consideration by the new incoming Congress.
According to a Senate Democratic aide, Sens. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) have already opened "preliminary" discussions with two House members over the revised legislation. Negotiators are considering scrapping a complicated proposal that would require an estimated 7 million illegal immigrants now living in the United States to jump across the border before returning to apply to become citizens.
That provision would also mean that illegals in the country for less than two years would not be guaranteed a slot in a guest-worker program.
Congress also may nix a border fence that many conservatives say is needed to stop the flow of illegals.
Legislation to build the fence passed Congress and signed by President Bush this year. But it hasn't been fully funded, and can be amended by a new law.
Most Democrats oppose the fence, as does Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who prefers a "virtual" fence in some areas.
But conservative Republican opponents of easing the path to citizenship for illegals lost major clout in the elections. "The fact that the Democrats are controlling Congress will definitely make it easier" to pass, said King.
But Democrats in conservative districts won't be "enthused" about supporting a bill that could be a political liability, he said. "The dynamics have certainly changed for the better!" crowed the Senate Democratic aide.
Critics said the original Senate bill is unworkable because of its provisions based on how long illegal

I'm not sure where it was filmed, I talking about where it was supposed to be. In any case, if you want to talk about real cosa nostraland these days, youse gotta go over the Goethals Bridge.
Too bad King was a longtime supporter of terrorism before 9/11.
On a national level, King is probably most famous for teaming up with Senator Clinton to help kill the UAE ports deal.
Huh?
He is a personal friend of Gerry Adams and of Martin McGuinness.
He has been the staunchest advocate the IRA has ever had in the US Congress.
Oh you mean the IRA? Yeah I didn't support King at all back then. I think the IRA is aligned with the Jihadists for a long time. They trained together.
If anybody saw 'The Panel' on Brit Hume's show last night... the consensus was that people who think like Peter King are smoking that high-test tobacco. After watching these pompous buffons chortle in derision of his statements... I wish I had been.
Anyone who reflects on amnesty will realize it spells disaster for this country. Those who push for amnesty pose a danger to this country.
The Rats are going to pass an amnesty bill with no fence, and that coward Bush is going to sign it.
Then, by my estimate, over 80% of those now in government are a danger to this country and should be told, quite forcefully, to cease and desist.
I am 1/2 serious.
As I send letter after letter, sign petition after petition, and support anti-illegal efforts, to Bush and other Pubs, I find myself so frustrated that when these 12-19 million get here legally due to 'bi-partisanship of W and Dems', I will resolve never to buy or support anything that smacks of this deal. Ever.
Better get used to it folks. This is how it's going to be from now on--no gonads in either party.
We need have King and others state the true numbers which are probably closer to 25 million and pound the table that they will all whistle and wave the rest of their families in. The people need to know this little tiny 11 million amnesty is really 80 million new friends over the next 10 years.
We are facing an invasion, terrorists are setting up cells, our borders need protection, and what do Senators McCain and Kennedy want? They want amnesty for illegal aliens.
Many politicians push for special perks for them. US citizen do not get the free medical treatment given to illegal aliens, permission to break laws that we do not like, or reduced college tuition.
This country does not need more people, especially not those who show contempt for our laws. Illegal aliens are using up limited resources, commit horrific crimes, etc.
Believe me, these criminals will not enrich our culture - many even refuse to learn the language - nor will they improve the gene pool.
Why the desire to keep illegal aliens and encourage more to come? Those who support them are traitors or bribed, hate this country, want to turn us into a Third World country, and/or mental ill.
ping
This is the sentence that belongs in the "nutshell"
The reality is, there are people in our government who believe all countries should be on equal footing, what they hate is how others perceive us. Some of them even think that is good for our country and feel patriotic for selling us out.
Beware Rhodes Scholars in particular
Just out of curiosity, why do they want to seceed? I know a group of gay vegan socialist weasels in San Fransicko want to, but thats expected from them.
But would the liberal media ever print it?
The end result is that each and every city will form it's own border defenses, small and large alike.
Some cities will be worth living in others won't.
The one's worth living in will not rent to illegals or hire them and law enforcement will take the two week course which allows them to kick the illegals out of town or jail them.
The others will be invaded.
