Nope, president and prime minister is not the same thing.

A prime minister is always the head of an administation and nowadays is responsible to the legislature - even if theoretically responsible to the monarch.

Presidents are directly elected and responsible to the electorate.

I see where I threw you off. In my original post, I used the phrase not the equivalent of their president., when what I intended to say was not the equivalent of our president, which Blair essentially is. He is the head of the British government, just as Bush is the head of ours.

Since you both are getting kind of technical, technically the President is not directly elected, just pointing that out.
