Trump Sues Town in American Flag Flap

Palm Beach, Fla. (AP) --

Donald Trump is suing this oceanside town for $10 million after being cited for flying an oversized American flag over his Mar-a-Lago Club.

Attorneys for the club filed a complaint Thursday, saying that flying the flag is a constitutionally protected expression of free speech — and that the large flag is a proper match for the size of the real-estate mogul's patriotism.

"A smaller flag and pole on Mar-A-Lago's property would be lost given its massive size, look silly instead of make a statement, and most importantly would fail to appropriately express the magnitude of Donald J. Trump's and the Club's members' patriotism," the lawsuit says.

Town officials said Trump violated zoning codes when the lavish club hoisted a 15-by-25-foot flag atop an 80-foot pole on Oct. 3. The citation was for having a flagpole taller than 42 feet, for not obtaining a building permit and for not getting permission from the landmarks board.

Big flag to match the big property, or the owner's big ego?

Trump had until Nov. 27 to apply for approvals or else he faced a Dec. 21 hearing that could have resulted in fines costing $250 per day. At that rate, I'm surprised Trump didn't just take the fine. But good for him to stand up for the right to fly the flag however he wants on his property.

Last time I looked the US Supreme Court had ruled that legislative bodies had no right to regulate anything having to do with the flag.

Strictly a free speech sort of thing any more.

I don't agree with the Court, but Trump would seem to have the law on his side (this time).

The same size flag is being flown here in my hometown by a car dealership. When they first flew that flag there was a huge hue and cry against it. Well, the flag is still there, and those who opposed it eventually shut up and went away. Here's hoping for the same with this flag.

When you buy property, other people lose control. Good to whack the nannies every once in a while, lest then take a little more control. and more after that.

Goverment is a disease, which mascarades as its own cure.

I'm not a big fan of the Donald's, however concerning the flying of a big American flag I'm with him all the way.

P.S. I'm also with him all the way on sueing that big mouth bull dyke Rosie O'Donnell !!!

Flying such a huge flag, you'd almost think the Donald was a Republican. He's not is he? Anybody know?

I can't believe I am siding with "The Donald," whom I usually can't stand, for the second time in a week. First for his battle against Rosie the Pig and now this.

Yes, I concur. It's a lot like having to root for one of my least favorite football teams because they are playing my least favorite football team. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

This will get good when Rosie opens her big fat ignorant mouth on the issue. That seems to be the MSM's cue to start reporting.

Meanwhile, in real news, US forces kill top Taliban leader and defeated the Taliban's great "summer offensive" leading to massive casualties among the Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters. Coalition losses were very low considering the estimated kill ratios. Also, the Taliban lost many tribal allies due to their terror tactics.

In Iraq, US/Iraqi forces have been beating back the mostly foreign "insurgency" and, despite idiotic rants from Al Qaeda, the Ba'athists and "Insurgents" are losing battle after battle and the Anbar Provence, though still violent, is not a safe place for the terrorists to be.

Though for some reason this news does not make headlines......
