Muslims forced to lift veil at airports

VEILED women will be forced to reveal their identities at UK airports under a government plan to tighten security, Scotland on Sunday can reveal.

Home Office insiders last night confirmed that immigration officials will be ordered to impose their legal right to lift the veils of passengers after it emerged a suspected police killer may have escaped the UK dressed as a Muslim woman.

But the plan has been attacked by unions, which claim it would impose intolerable demands on their members, particularly female officers who would be the only ones allowed to look under veils.

Ministers have been forced on to the back foot in the past week after it was revealed that asylum seeker Mustaf Jama, wanted for the murder of Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, flew from Heathrow to Somalia using his sister's passport. He is believed to have been wearing a niqab, which has just a slit for eyes.

It subsequently emerged that immigration staff are legally entitled to ask any female passenger to lift her veil to verify her identity against passport photographs. But officers usually wave passengers through because they do not have the time to check everyone.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair yesterday joined the growing calls for change, saying airline passengers must remove any head-dress that covers their face. Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has consistently warned of the grave terror threat facing the country, said: "We must find methods of allowing people to take off the veil in a way that's dignified."

But a senior Home Office source insisted that existing law gave immigration officers wide-ranging rights. However, the department told Scotland on Sunday last week that it does not hold any centralised records of those checked or refused entry for failing to meet entry requirements.

Home Secretary John Reid is planning to enforce these legal rights before considering any more significant changes.

"Immigration officers can check beneath veils and they do this at every port of entry, every day of the week," the source added. "It is done sensitively and in private.

"Where they don't do it, I suspect it is more often to do with a lack of suspicion than lax procedures or overwork. But we recognise that this sort of thing should be the rule, not the exception."

The Immigration Act 1971 requires everyone entering the UK to satisfy an immigration officer as to their nationality and identity. Where there are sensitive or cultural reasons why it is not possible for a person to remove a veil or other garment at the immigration control, they will be taken to a private area where their identity can be verified.

(Some) People have been demandiing and demanding and demanding. (Some) People are furious at this. Nobody (in the 'mainstream') listens.

******

Just like the passengers of the first three planes to crash on 9/11 did not know that the 'rules' had changed, but the passengers of the fourth plane did, so today not enough people are ready to push back against the PC world, which is so destructive of our civilization.

It really has to get almost to the point where Oprah fans and The View fans and NPR fans say " enough" before there will be enough consensus to say we have to acknowledge where we have been heading and change course.

It isn't just the pc police who insist we not speak up.

It is sort of American to "go along" and be polite. Rather than being "ugly", Americans are awfully polite and pleasant and don't make fusses.

We form lines, for the most part don't break in line and don't make a fuss if others do. We have a broad tolerance for annoyances and generally live and let live.

I know there are exceptions, but for the most part we are incredibly tolerant and kindly to others. At least in the south we are. We just don't like "scenes" and people who are "soreheads".

I agree with you about American nature. The people who have conditioned us to remain polite against ever increasing inroads in our freedoms, have used our politeness against us.

How retarded.
Last time I flew, about two years ago, I had to unbutton my maternity jeans and lift my shirt, exposing my huge pregnant belly and a good part of my pelvis to the ENTIRE WORLD. I didn't even get a special room, they did it behind a wall of transparent plexi-glass.
Screw the burqas!

Besides, I treat my woman better then that.

I don't want to see other women treated like a 2nd class citizen (unless you are Helen Thomas, then you should be forced to cover up from head to toe twice).

My mother has been patted down at the airport. They pat down little old ladies and mad methodist, they better pat down those who fit the profile of terrorist too. And if that makes me Politically Uncorrect, then so be it.

The staff are just discovering the rules under which they operate?
Do not have time to check..? WTF? I never saw them 'hustle'.

LOL, my point was the headline: Muslims Forced to Lift Veil at Airports.

Wouldn't a more accurate and responsible headline be, "Nobody Allowed to Cover Faces at Airport"?

You don't hear normal people whining and screaming about the horrible indignity of having to remove jackets and shoes, but the it's just horrible torture for a muzzie to have to remove veils and turbans. Of course, terrorist bombings, mob torture-murders, and honor killings of female family members are still OK.

Dignified or no - and we are not asking to peak up their skirts either - we have to know who is coming into close proximity to us. No show - no fly.

You know I get dressed before I go out. And getting the jacket right over the blouse, getting everything tucked in, pants legs straight takes time.

So why do I get to security and have to put my jacket in a bin, take off belt, take off shoes, empty pockets etc and these women sail thru in burkas.

They should take off the burkas and the veils or allow me to keep my jacket and belt and shoes on.

that term , infidel woman, both offends me and is slightly exciting in a sexy way.

I like being thought of as an infidel woman. In public places I force eye contact with Muslim men and give them sort of a disdainful sexy look,,,I am working on it. A form of psychological warfare against those disgusting woman hating men.

All American women owe it to the "cause" to make muslim men terribly uncomfortable. We have to perfect out look that says "you are not man enough for a real woman"

Oh my, this is what women in the south did to Yankee soldiers after the unpleasantness. And drove the yankees crazy.

I think I channeled my great great granny!
