BEIJING China and the United States on Saturday signed an agreement that paves the way for Westinghouse Electric Co. to build four civilian nuclear reactors in China, a multibillion dollar coup for U.S. business over French and Russian competitors.
A memorandum of understanding supporting the transfer of nuclear technology to China was signed by China's Minister for the National Development and Reform Commission Ma Kai and U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman.
"This is an exciting day for the U.S. nuclear industry," Bodman said at the ceremony. "It is an example that if we work together we can advance not only our trade relations but also our common goal of energy security."

There are eight in planning stages, permits, etc. I hope only that my uranium mining company gets some sales action from these Westinghouse reactors.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
Westinghouse can make some pretty good reactors - they made a bunch for the US Navy....
Eight in planning stages! Wow, isn't that impressive? Our dependence on foreign oil is a major weakness, yet we have no nuclear plants under contruction? (Thanks to our Congressmorons of both major parties.)
Nearly half of them are by one power company, one of the best power companies in America.
Which power compnay is that?
Very interesting.

I thought it was announced in very recent time that Toshiba bought Westinghouse nuclear unit. I know I read it in the last issue of Forbes.

It's a new kind of reactor called a "Pebble Bed" reactor, or something.
The libs have fixed it so we can't even TRY this (super safe) stuff here.
Looks like you're right. http://atomicinsights.blogspot.com/2006/09/ge-considering-impacts-of-toshibas.html

A major example of the Failure of the Republican Party, when it controlled the House, Senate and White House, to address the energy problem. Instead of acting like leaders they spent their time trying to please the lunatic left. Republicans are gutless.
OK, having established that fact, we now have a big money consortium and best of the best working togrther to conquer the nuclear.
There are several projects on the boards on the USA. I had a hand in the construction of several TVA nuc units. Back last winter I was talking with a much younger guy with nuclear project background who had been approached by someone digging up the old guys to actually begin the field construction work.
That was a positive indication that some one here is making some pretty intensiv prepertion for actualllygetting the new work done.
Since there apparently are no new nuclear power plants currently under construction in the U.S., I'd say whatever our Congressmorons did was too little, too late. There ought to be a dozen under contruction by now, instead of ZERO. Pathetic.
