INDIANAPOLIS -- More than 300 people say they became ill, and at least three have been hospitalized, after eating at an Olive Garden restaurant last weekend, health officials said Friday.

The restaurant on Indianapolis' north side was closed temporarily while health officials and the company investigate what caused customers to complain of nausea, vomiting, fever and diarrhea, a company spokesman said.

Steve Coe, a spokesman for the Orlando, Fla.-based chain of Italian restaurants, said health officials are focusing on an employee who had flu-like symptoms similar to those patrons complained of after eating there.

'Yum! Brands' owns Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut, as well as Yum! stand-alone restaurants in Canada and Texas. May want to avoid them for a while as they most likely use the same produce suppliers.

Darden Restaurants owns Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Smokey Bones and Bahama Breeze restaurants.

Same thing. Be careful out there, Freepers. ;)

as opposed to the "glove" approach, I think our immune systems need a little challenge now and again, which is why I eat in greasy dives.

Well, that, and I like grease. ;)

Not to put too fine of a point on it, but I rarely eat beef. I've indulged twice this season because they were FREE meals for Christmas parties I was attending for work-related things. One was at a local, organic restaurant, and the other was at a hunt club. (Local Angus Fillet at the first, a big old slab of Prime Rib at the other.)

Both times the meals were top-notch, but later I thought I was going to DIE! I forgot that if you don't eat beef on a regular basis, you lose the enzymes in your gut to break it down properly. (It just sits there and wants to come back up.) "Duh" on me. *Rolleyes*

Anyhow, you just keep on eating at greasy dives...they're much safer for your health, LOL!

When I came back from Korea, as a kid, I couldn't eat meat at all. Or almost not at all - if you buried it in kimche and rice, I could eat it. Walked in to a Red lobster, turned green from the grease smell, and left.

Of course, now I butter my sausage. LOL.

As a former waitress I can tell you this: restaurants never staff more than the "perfect" amount of emloyees and the managers give you a fit if you try to call in sick. Maybe a few lawsuits will have them changing their tune about sick employees.
