Members of the congregation at Saddleback Church, the church led by Rick Warren, are evidently being ushered right out of membership for voicing any concern over the idea of Barack Obama being allowed to speak at the church recently.
I received a lengthy letter from a member of Saddleback this morning that confirmed as much:

Sorry .. when you have disagreements - it's meant to be PRIVATE - BETWEEN YOU AND THE PASTOR - not in a public forum like the media. I don't blame him. I'd usher them out too. If they're not willing to talk with the Pastor personally and privately - then then need to leave. Do you know how MANY people have tried to get private meetings with him for this very idea?
Also, this is not a personal offense that is to be kept private. False teaching is to be rebuked/correctly publicly because it has been done publicly. Those who have heard it also need to hear the correction. It cannot be kept private.

Have you read Bob DeWaay's Excellent book? "Redefining Christianity." It is! Another good book is "Hard to Believe" by John MacArthur.

Read the whole article...it does not confirm what the lead article asserts. There is no evidence Rick Warren did what is alleged! You mean he didn't personally push them out the door?
What exactly DO you mean? Is it as bad if he approved of this? If he set up the system whereby dissenters are ousted for trying to hold the leadership to a Biblical standard? Open your eyes, man, this goes on in every church that has adopted his Purpose Driven Philosophy! Not the least of which is his own!

Hey, I understand. There is always the temptation to swing the opposite direction and clamp down too tightly on everyone. That's our choice here in this smallish town, many churches, all pretty mediocre as far as doctrine goes, in different levels of infatuation with 'church growth' philosophy, and then one or two very separatist churches. We have to drive about a half hour to find a Biblical church. Which makes participation during the week difficult.

And when it seems largely to come from sour grapes because of differences over doctrine which The Bible has some ambiguity over . The Bible isn't ambiguous over salvation. That's my main beef with Warren. His avoidance of the things about God which offend the 'natural man.' Natural man *should* be offended. It's what brings about real repentance eventually. Otherwise it's just 'feel good' belonging to a social club.

On the other hand, I have a fiercely strong bias in behalf of leaders listening to the lowest person in their ranks. Whenever they are not willing to do that, their pride is in the way and that's a route to all manner of evil. I am glad for that in you. That's a good quality.

Only mega chruches I've ever been to that I would even consider regularly attending. But I prefer churches where the pastor actually gets a chance to know who you are.

Ol' Rick may be forced to cut back his kick back to the org to less than 90% if he expels too many dues.....er tithes paying members who come to the accurate realization that he is as full of sh*t as a Christmas goose.

My feeling is that if you want to lead people to Christ, one needs to lead by example.

Yeah, I had a bible study teacher who reacted the same way. Question HER interpretation and you were smacked down as not knowing what you were talking about. I had this "teacher" and I told the class one night about reading something in the Torah. Later she accosted me and said "I don't know what this Torah is you are mentioning but it has no place in our study of Genesis." It was hilarious.
