Members of the congregation at Saddleback Church, the church led by Rick Warren, are evidently being ushered right out of membership for voicing any concern over the idea of Barack Obama being allowed to speak at the church recently.
I received a lengthy letter from a member of Saddleback this morning that confirmed as much:

Saddleback is in the Southern Baptist Convention. SHHH! He doesn't want anyone to know that!
The SBC is undergoing its own turbulence because some people are concerned about their endorsement of Rick Warren and many false teachings, contemplative prayer etc., things like the Emergent Church making inroads into the SBC.

I am losing more respect for Rick Warren with each passing day. If he can't take criticism, then he needs to get out of public life.

Can I see some actual proof that what is being asserted as having happened, actually happened (letter, member, etc. etc.)? Email Kevin McCullough at the original article. He linked to some excerpts from the email. For obvious reasons, the submitter of the email has wanted to remain anonymous. But I imagine it's possible he would be the only one who could verify the email.
Joseph Farah at worldnetdaily has had a running tiff with Warren too since the Obama/Syria things, and he has been in correspondence with a Saddleback member expressing similar concerns.

The new minister isn't any better and is trying to turn the church into one of those new mega churches. So, she left. It's the Church of the Nazarene and they don't even mention the name of Jesus in the sermons, for fear of offending some of the new people. Your story is being told all over Christendom, with different characters and more often, minus some of the details (e.g. such as the affair or other blatantly obvious sins).

And Warren is surprised by the reaction of his congregants? Probably. After all he's been grooming them for years to 'go along to get along' with the leadership. His whole system is geared toward "following the leader" and "putting aside differences" to have Unity.

Rick you ought to be ashamed! You also ought to be removed from the position of pastor imo.

In So. Baptist churches, when a person that is a member of one church wishes to "move" their membership, the new church is notified if there has been problems with the former member. This is not a new practice. So what happens if you have legitimate concerns over the direction of the church and they blacklist you for that?
Did you read the article from the WSJ on Sept 5?

Not sure what it's from. I was thinking it had the message type wording
But this is that passage in tm
Matthew 15:8 These people make a big show of saying the right thing, but their heart isn't in it.
Matthew 15:9 They act like they're worshiping me, but they don't mean it. They just use me as a cover for teaching whatever suits their fancy."
A little ironic. :)

We had the same experience as My2cents and it wasn't a Baptist church but a Lutheran one. Egos are not denominational distinct. Au Contraire, I think a big ego is a prerequisite for leadership in the Evangelical Covenant. This false doctrine has all but taken over that denomination. The sheep are mostly sleeping (and being booted out if they wake up and try to warn the rest) and more falsehood is flooding in under the guise of 'freedom in Christ.'
Sexuality will be rehashed AGAIN at the next Annual Meeting (e.g. people are trying to wear everyone down to accepting something other than the conservative defintion of acceptable sexuality that they already have) and a few up and comers are starting to whine about the Covenant's current stance on abortion. With the other false teachings entering the church and the prideful pastors and denominational leadership they already have in place, it's only a matter of time.

Whereas on the flip side most churches don't tell search committees about Ego pastor because they want him gone so bad. See, I don't understand that. I would tell them, and I would also get rid of him and help him find work at the local Walmart.

Go pursue your purpose elsewhere? The cult of Warren... But you know, this isn't surprising. Things like this do happen in smaller congregations all the time - pastors who intimate, "My way or go find somewhere else." are nothing new.

The members will be better off for it. Then maybe they can get into a church. John Macarthur's church isn't too far, so I hear...

I believe Warren's Purpose Drive Life also argues that congregants who don't agree with the introduction of pop music into church services should be thrown out, also. Apparently, he believes churches should be run like McDonalds--find out what the masses want and give it to them.BINGO!!!
Have you read Bob DeWaay's Excellent book? "Redefining Christianity." Also Gary Gilley's "This Little Church Went To Market" and "This Little Church Stayed Home."
