The Ohio Senate has passed House Bill 347 (reforming concealed carry, standardizing Ohio gun laws statewide) by a vote of 21 to 12, thus overriding Governor Taft's veto.
Whadda ya' mean? Taft resides in the state of incompetence and Kucinich in the state of confusion.
He was one of those who voted to override the veto.

CLEVELAND, Dec. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today the Ohio Senate voted 21-12 to override Governor Bob Taft's veto of Ohio House Bill 347, joining the Ohio House's decision to override last week. This is the first time an Ohio Governor's veto has been overridden since 1977.
Ohio will now join forty-three other states that preempt all gun laws to the State level or higher, making their application consistent statewide. Research has shown that of the many assault weapon bans enacted across the State of Ohio, only three criminal convictions have ever taken place. Further, local governments can only enact minimal fines and short misdemeanor jail terms. Laws aimed at curbing violence and targeting the violent criminals that plague our society must not only be consistent statewide, they must have the ability to levy appropriate charges and serious jail sentences. This legislation provides for that.
"The framers of Ohio's Home Rule Amendment never intended for local municipalities to have authority over laws that are of statewide concern. That is not my opinion. That is written directly into the Constitution," said Jeff Garvas, president of Ohioans for Concealed Carry. "Local governments have created a patchwork of unknown laws aimed at disarming their law abiding residents in different ways than their neighbors in another town. This confusing patchwork also unfairly traps the unwary gun owner traveling through their jurisdictions. This reform isn't just needed, it's long overdue and brings Ohio in line with the rest of the country."

Which bloodbath would that be? We must be up around 45 bloodbaths that were supposed to happen once law abiding citizens were allowed to carry concealed handguns. And we're still waiting.

We're not all horrible. On gun stuff, some Democrats have been very good as compared to the GOP. Examples: Gov. Warner in VA and Rep. Eric Croft in AK.

Oh, I'm not disappointed. I was trying (badly) to point out what camp Bob Taft is really in. It pains me to see Strickland and Sherrod Brown in, but Taft was completely useless.

I think the OSP administration and the rank and file differ on the subject.
I think that is a mixed bag. I have had reported to me -- by active and retired police officers -- OSP Troopers doing felony stops on CCW holders in counties in and around Franklin County.
I know that as a police officer from Ohio, I am all for the Right of the people to carry and protect themselves.
If police officers are afraid of law-abiding citizens carrying guns then they need to look for another line of work.

I shudder while remembering an advanced firearms class with some young officers fresh out of the academy two years ago. They spent quite a while coaching each other how to bust CCW holders on technical violations (e.g. coat flopping over handgun while in or in act of exiting vehicle, handgun in console instead of glove box, IWB holster instead of OWB holster, etc.). They seemed not to understand what I was speaking of when I conveyed to them that normal, average law abiding citizens are growing wary of that kind of 'gotcha game' while honestly trying to comply with the law.
Felony traffic stops on CCW permit holders?? That's outrageous. That burns my skinny caucasian arse. How rediculous.
I've had few dealings with permit holders here, we talk about guns, I shake their hands. One guy I got on a bit because he had his permit but didn't have his gun with him. Told him the paper wasn't going to do him any good. I've asked them if they've had any trouble from the police. The ones I have dealt with had not, BUT, they were very leary about Ohio's terrible CCW laws. Thankfully that's over with.
We have a guy on our dept. who helps people qualify to be able to carry.

Yup, very true. However, the pendulem moves left, then right, and repeats itself. '06's setbacks in a late-term election do not, in any way, suggest a change in conservatism. Bad news for the Right is: they aren't very right.

Your welcome. The local newspaper had a story in it today about our neighboring city. The Mayor there is pouty that this legislation passed, he's an anti-gun democrat.
Anyway, the paper talked to the police chief of that city and the chief said that they had not had any incidents with law-abiding citizens carrying concealed. It's a town of about 50 thousand people.

Yes, it changes the idiotic in vehicle rules.
All one has to do now, from what I read, is notify the officer that he has a permit and he (and hopefully she as well) is carrying a firearm.
Common sense is making progress.
