The President and First Lady spent the weekend at the White House attending church as usual and also attended Christmas in Washington an annual Christmas event which was taped on Sunday.
Today the President and Vice President met with the Secretary of State at the State Department to discuss the situation in Iraq.
Over the weekend the outgoing Secretary of Defense Don Rumsfeld made a farewell visit to the troops in Iraq.

Do you know where I can find a web reference to Rumsfeld saying that (post 28)? It's an incredibly good insight and quote.

I heard my husband yelling from the other room, "What is HE doing there??? Can't I put on ANYTHING without seeing this dork?" [Obama] Sounds like you have a right-minded husband!

I hope it's a good sign that Condi and the UN Secretary-General Elect look so at ease together. (Although I would like to see an end to the UN, while it's still alive and draining our tax dollars, thwarting our national policies, and stinking up New York, I'd rather see congeniality than Annan.)

I've never seen a pup look so human as that little one. He does look like he got a talkin' to, and knew what it meant. Wish I knew the story behind the photo. I think it's just adorable. (After the rain, the sun will shine again.)

There's something about this photo that haunts me. They look so serious and Rumsfeld is smiling broadly. Nancy, can you help me understand this photo? It seems to me (in my ignorance of these things) that they may have a leader who is a grump and discourages emoting, or have just come from a mission that was especially grueling, or possibly some other ideas which I will keep to myself. The constriction of their facial expressions ... What do you think? I can't remember seeing a photo of our troops with someone of Rumsfeld's position looking this way,
in this administration.

I predict he's (Obama Hussein) going to BURNOUT before the race actually gets going.... I think it's highly likely he'll peter out somewhere along the way.
The old media has decided it has to focus on someone, and they anointed him (eye roll here), but they're giving him far too much face time for a man who has so little truly useful substance. Overexposure has its drawbacks and he's pushing the drawback envelope. Big time.

Borrowed Jonny's ping on this to say that Dr. Phil and his wife interviewed Geo. and Laura a few years ago at Prairie Chapel Ranch and the four of them struck up a friendship. They share a lot of the same values. Next thing I saw that came out of that was a Christmas special with them all together, and now, this year, the same.

I kept clicking on the photos to open and they would not I think NTL have a few problems in my area the TV has been on and off all day. Then the cable Internet went down just as I was preparing the dose so I slung up my other machine in case I had to do it from dial up. By that time the cable was back then it went down again started to prepare on dial up and then the cable came back so continued with the cables very frustrating. Thank you for persevering in the midst of so many frustrations. Time and again.
BTW, the wind has died down here today.

I'm glad you folks liked those chickens and Cluck of the Bells. A lot of work went into it -- someone's fertile mind at work. I couldn't help laughing and yet thinking, This is SOOO silly! Then I'd laugh again.

Many people didn't vote for that seat at all and Dean is insisting they would have, should have, blah blah. Never mind that they DIDN'T. Thankfully the US Constitution still doesn't say that voters' unvoted intent will decide elections. In other words, we are not ruled by those too lazy to vote.

Two thoughts: 1) she has been miffed by not being asked to be a White House speechwriter, after she took a leave of absence from the NYT to work on his campaign, and 2) she is tired of defending her support of him in (1) to her beltway/Manhattan/Hamptons friends. Maybe she got dropped from the list of desired parties, etc. Quite plausible. Probably both l and 2. But there was definitely a decrease in the quality of her writing.

Agreed. Whining isn't pleasant to read whether it is by Mo Dowd or Peggy Noonan.
