Spanish school cancels Christmas

Wed Nov 29, 2006 5:13 PM GMT14

MADRID (Reuters) - A school in traditionally Catholic Spain has cancelled Christmas celebrations so as not to offend children who are not Christians, ABC newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The Hilarion Gimeno school in Zaragoza said teachers had put forward various reasons for not celebrating Christmas, but ABC said the worry was that Muslim children might be upset.

The school will not put on a nativity play or hand out presents, but pupils will be free to decorate the halls and sing carols.

"We are educators and we want our school programme to advance the personal development of our students as much as possible," the school said.

Christmas celebrations usually last for about a month in Spain, with parties starting in December and running through to January 6 for "Los Reyes", a huge fiesta to celebrate the visit of the three wise men to the new-born Jesus in Bethlehem.

The only hope is the eventual war between Catholic Hispanics and Muslims in America

I have been saying something like this for a long time. If there was a way to really assimilate this Latin influx, they could provide the moral background and the large families (breeding) required to fight this evil Islam. In the past, immigrants did just that. In WWII there were a lot of second generation Poles, Irish, Italians, Jews and Germans doing the heavy lifting. Cultures get old and fat. The problem is that we don't have real assimilation going on now.

A SHORT, select list of Islamist ‘tolerance and peaceful’ exchange with the western world.

637 AD – Jerusalem falls to Muslim forces
641 AD - Muslim conquest of parts of Georgia and Armenia, Eastern Europe
667 AD – Sicily attacked by Muslims
711 AD - Al-Andalus, Muslim conquest of Spain and the Iberian peninsula begins
725-30 AD - Muslim forces take French towns, Nimes, Narbonne, Avignon
732 AD - Battle of Tours/Poitiers, France, Charles Martell halts Muslim forces in their further expansion into Europe
827 AD - Islamic Conquest of Sicily. They were finally kicked out by the Normans around 1097
846 AD - Muslim forces sack Rome and the Vatican
911 AD – Muslim forces control all the passes in the Alps between France and Italy
920 AD – Muslim forces cross Pyrenees and enter Gascony and reach the gates of Toulouse, France
1033 AD – Castille, Spain is taken back from the Muslims
1045-1099 – El Cid, becomes a hero of Spain and attempts to drive Muslims from Spain
1095 AD - Pope Urban calls for 1st Crusades to regain Holy Land from Islam and trade routes to the east. This fight between Christians and Muslims last about two centuries.
1492 AD - Spain finally forces out Muslims who have ruled over 700 years
1683 AD – Battle between Muslim forces from Turkey and the Habsburgs at Vienna, Austria
1683 AD – till the present is more of the same….blah, blah, blah.

As I heard someone remark a long time ago, “Islam has bloody borders.”
The problem is that Islam keep trying to spill over their borders to our borders which is the way it has been for their entire history.

You know, I think that I've come to understand why it is that some people get "insulted" by the celebration of an event by others...

It's the issue of "self importance." It's the thought process of "It's all about me!" The possibility that a person's not directly involved, or more to the point, benefiting from the event harms that individual's self esteem... They can't just sit back and say, "Oh, look at all the pretty lights!" And be thankful that we live in a country that used to support peoples' rights to celebrate their religions and holidays as they saw fit. Heck, I'm Jewish, and I LOVE the Christmas (not "Holiday") celebrations, although I do have to admit that if I worked in retail, the Christmas music starting at Thanksgiving would probably drive me nuts well before Christmas day.

In the case of muslims, that may be part of it, but I think that it does deeper: Since it seems that islam isn't capable of "sharing," or coexisting with other religions without trying to dominate the others (and their followers - I've referred to islam as a "bully" religion before), I think that even though it's been shown to be patently false, muslims believe that if there's a public display of any other religion, then islam is being attacked. It's projection: If it were "islam that was in charge," any display of religion (or most anything else) would be prohibited.

Never any concern about offending Christians.

Well, lately Christians aren't in the habit of sawing your head off, or murdering hundreds of men, women, and children...

I do not understand your original post. To whom are you referring?
The Jews did not opt out of Iraq. They were kept out by the US. Politically correct thinking (doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason) gone awry again.
Please explain.

The families of both Franco and Castro came from Galicia ~ could be hereditary ~ be a dictator, take a long time to die, eat goat on Sundays, I don't know.

But--but---most Christians would be embarrassed if their children were offended by the acknowledgement or observation of any other religion in school.
If children are offended by any show of Christianity in schools, shouldn't they be going to some kind of re-education camp or something?
And by the way, shouldn't these people be concentrating on the fundamentals of education, like determining the right condom for anal sex?

I'm making my New Years resolution early.

I resolve to be more vocal about my faith and beliefs. To begin public debate about the attack on my faith and my God.

After all, can anyone really tell me, "What do you find offensive about Jesus?"

Yes...Spain was once under the boot of Islam.

I think the Islamic invaders were expelled in the 14th or 15th century.

Check out Post #62 for more detials.

it may happen if they advocate cancelling all christian holidays and making people work instead.
Oh what an uprising we would see?

Actually, this is a bow to the secularists, who are pretending they care about Muslims.

Again. Looks like the Moors are back in business in Spain.

"Never any concern about offending Christians."

Of course not. Christians don't routinely go around blowing up trains, or flying aircraft into buildings, or sawing off the heads of helpless hostages.

No, not appeasement. The problem is the Socialists (read Communists) who rule in Spain for the moment actually think their ideology will be persuasive to the Moslems and will result in their acculturation.

They are mistaken, of course. Even the Grand Mufti of Indonesia has issued a fatwah against being a Communist. Apparantly the Spanish Socialist forgot about this, but one day after prayers, and right after the mufti's fatwah, the Islamic faithful poured out across the country and killed something like two million people in less than a week.

They killed all the Commies all over the country and many Hindus on Bali.

It'll be like that someday in Spain. The word will go out after Friday prayers and the Islamic faithful will hit their targets. Then there will be no more Socialists to protect the Moslems and the Christians can start in again where they left off at the end of the Reconquista.

It's going to be really nasty there ~ always is when this sort of thing comes to a head ~ so anybody you love who lives there probably ought to be evacuated as soon as possible.

Jesus is a prophet according to all Moslems. However, in Iran they celebrate Naruz, which is an old Zorastrian holiday.

You are thinking of Syria where the top dog belongs to the Alawi ~ a group that combines elements of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They started out as a bunch of Shi'ites, but long ago passed out of the pale of Islamic orthodoxy.

One Freeper reported that Sadr (in Iran) has agreed that they are Moslems. All the Moslems I've ever spoken to on the matter, as well as all the authorities on the internet, disagree with Sadr on the issue.
