Smoking Ban Violators Won't Be Cited Until Rules Complete

POSTED: 7:16 pm EST December 7, 2006 UPDATED: 7:29 pm EST December 7, 2006

CINCINNATI -- State officials have agreed not to issue any warning letters or fines for violations of Ohio's new smoking ban until the law's rules and regulations are completed, according to attorneys for the Ohio Department of Health and a trade group that filed a lawsuit trying to block the ban.

The attorneys said the agreement will be filed Friday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.

The lawsuit filed by the Buckeye Liquor Permit Holders Association will be on hold while the state works out the rules.

The trade group said the ban is unconstitutional and had requested a restraining order to prevent its enforcement.

It was approved Nov. 7 by Ohio voters and prohibits smoking in nearly all public buildings.

Well, isn't that considerate of them?

Today, in the building where I work, the security guards went around with a Polaroid camera taking pictures of people smoking in the underground and ventilated parking garage. NAZIs.

Goshers! Thank you Nanny!

Now will you make us eat and drink the right things too?

So, while it is still illegal to smoke, the State will not issue any warnings and fines until the details are finalized.

An investigative reporter in Cleveland just showed employees at the Justice Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio smoking in the underground parking lot. LOL.

All the lies in the world won't stop the truth from prevailing. It is not your God given right to blow poisonous fumes anywhere near me. Blow all the smoke you want, 2/3 of Ohio voters say enough already.

You want to worry about your freedom going away?

You better start thinking about what freedoms you are entitled to and will fight for. Lighting a poisonous bonfire in front of your face and exhaling the fumes in my airspace ain't one of'em.

Really? Do you have a "right" to drive your car around in public? Doesn't it emit poisonous fumes? If you don't like smoking in a business, why don't you just not patronize it? There are many non-smoking options for you to choose from. You don't have the slightest clue about freedom. There are a lot of things that you may enjoy that I personally don't like, but it's still wrong to vote away your right to enjoy them in peace.

The fact is "bad law is bad law", and this law is just that. Having a sign at every public location with a phone number to report violations is over the top. You can have the number for reporting violations, but you don't have to have it posted everywhere. Citizens should treat each other respectfully. This is nothing but Nazi-Germany.

This morning, I went to pay for my gas at a place that was totally outdoors. There was sign on the window saying, "Bathroom Breack -- Be Right Back." It turns out that the manager was in his car having a smoke with I was outside in frigid weather for five minutes waiting for him to return so that I could pay for may gas and leave.

Read the other posts that I have made here. If you can't see that this law is a little extreme and needs amending, I don't know what to say to you.

Right! Like the whole state of CA., and now Ohio too!

Coming to a state near you soon--the freedom to travel freely without encountering persons deliberately blowing smoke back atcha! Exhaust analogy--weaker each time it's used. Why bother? You have no strong arguments on any of these whining threads, only the same old tired insults.

America going smoke-free? It's a done deal. Only a matter of time. And I ain't lyin. She lyin.

Have you bothered to read my posts about bad law? You are nothing but a total NAZI (and I don't use that term lightly). Reread your words and see. Think before you spew words. Bad law is bad law. There is a way to come up with a good and meaningful law, but you NAZIs don't want that.

LOL, someone needs a hug this morning. What lies? What truth? Tell you what, I promise not to smoke in your presence if you promise not to inhale in mine.

Then I guess 2/3 of Ohio are Nazis as well. Always highly persuasive arguments, your insults. But I guess I can expect no more from the pro-smoking, in-your-face bootjacks.

You are the one with the insulting language and filled with hate, not me. I suggest you read your posts and that you treat people respectfully.

You don't own or control any airspace, except by moving out of any airspace you find objectionable.
