House Denounces French Street Name

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House passed a resolution Wednesday denouncing a French city for naming a street in honor of Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was sentenced to death for shooting a Philadelphia police officer 25 years ago this month.

``We must stand together as one and send a strong message to the world that cop-killers deserve to be punished, not to be celebrated,'' said Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, a Philadelphia-area congressman who authored the resolution.

The vote came a few days shy of the 25th anniversary of the shooting of Daniel Faulkner, a 25-year-old officer shot after he pulled over Abu-Jamal's brother on Dec. 9, 1981. Abu-Jamal, a one-time radio reporter and former Black Panther, was convicted in 1982 and sentenced to death.

Abu-Jamal's writings and taped speeches on the justice system have made him a cause celebre among Hollywood activists, foreign politicians and some death-penalty opponents who believe he was the victim of a racist justice system.

Perhaps now they will denounce the City of Round Rock, Texas for naming a major street after train robber, bank robber and cop killer Sam Bass.

Sam Bass (21 July 1851–21 July 1878) was a nineteenth-century American train robber and western icon. Handsome and charismatic, he is best known for his brief, yet extremely lucrative career as a train and bank robber.

We could name a street after Otto von Bismarck in response.

Of course, a lot of modern-day French are so dumb they wouldn't get the message behind that. Oh well.

The French city that named the street was St. Denis, a Paris suburb.

You may recall St. Denis.

That's the town where last year a number of "immigrant youths" went wild.

If memory serves, the young people who went wild were adherents of the "religion of peace".

As was the cop murderer from Philadelphia.

Oh for crying out loud, it's well known that the French are lunatics. Does the US House have nothing better to do, than to condemn a street name in France?

For what it's worth, the street's name should properly be "Wesley Cook Street." That was "Jamal's" name when he murdered Daniel Faulkner.

You may recall St. Denis.

Saint-Denis is also the city that hosts the cathedral where the French kings of old were buried since the fifth century.

Now Saint-Denis is the city of a mayor brown-nosing Muslim murderers. What a decadence.

France needs a new Joan of Arc, and not just for ousting foreign invaders: the French politicos are truly sickening.
