A veiled Muslim woman will deliver this year's alternative Christmas speech on Channel 4, the broadcaster has said.
Khadija, a Zimbabwean-born British citizen who has been wearing the full veil - or niqab - for 10 years, has been given the slot.
The message will reflect a year in which the wearing of religious clothing and symbols have "dominated the news agenda", said a Channel 4 spokesman.
A counterpoint to the Queen's Christmas speech first appeared on C4 in 1993.
The spokesman added that the specific contents of the message would be released closer to Christmas Day.
I think this is a good thing. It will drive home the point that Jack Straw made about how difficult it is to identify with a person who is unwilling to reveal her face.
And I suppose there is a Christian "alternative" to Ramadan observed by the Brits in Oct. as well. We have to be sensitive to all groups, don't we?
This is bizarre. And absurd.
Muslim communities belong in Muslim countries. People wearing masks should be arrested.

Who needs an alternative speech anyway?
Christmas is for Christians.The world is going mad.
The Queen's Christmas address used to be an important Christmas tradition. It's importance has largely been symbolic, but it is a reminder of national identity and optimism. As with many traditions and institutions, it has been targeted for ridicule and actively undermined. However, I can't imagine that this year's alternative address will exactly capture the nation's attention (aside from the usual self-loathers and multi-culti freaks) when past presenters have been Bart Simpson and Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice). So, nameless, faceless Muslim woman has much less star power and should be easier to skip...
Perhaps the address will be followed by a tape of these peaceful people beheading someone in celebration.

I think that its child abuse for women to be seen in public with masks on their faces. It must be very scary for young children. Kids just don't understand.
