Congress Open to Passing Bill on Immigration (Citizenship for 20 million illegals!)
The Washington Times ^ | December 4, 2006 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 12/04/2006 6:58:29 AM PST by kellynla

Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

"President Bush is against amnesty. But I repeate myself..."

___________________________________________________________

Nice play on words.

It depends on what one calls amnesty. Most here consider citizenship or "a pathway to citizenship" Amnesty.

GWB is being a little coy when he says he opposes amnesty.

He might oppose a direct immediate amnesty but he is 10000000000% behind a "pathway to citizenship" which RESULTS in the same thing.

What he is proposing could have the same outcome, just over a longer period of time.

I realize this concept might be hard for you to grasp based on your lack of reading skills, but just read it over a few times slowly and hopefully it will make sense to you.

I responded to apost that specifically addressed the number deported, that number is 80,000or there abouts.

So you don't really believe your "137.5 years" thing. Good to hear.

It's not the Nazi card; it's the Hypocrite Card, pal.

I hope I don't see you on any of the threads whining about police brutality and the government taking your rights away from you.

You're showing the strains of situational ethics.

Didn't you hear?

Amnesty is now defined as giving all illegal aliens and thier pets instant U.S. citizenship, $100,000 cash, and a flat-screen TV.

Bush is against that. Always has been.

"And it doesn't bother you one bit that most of the "sweep" was illegal? Does it bother you at all that they stopped anybody who "looked" Mexican and asked them for their ID?"

Yup, but we have much better technology now to find out who is who. As an employer I can make a few phone calls and get a background check of any potential employee. If said employee's "paper trail" mysteriously starts at age 23...
well, you can figure out the rest. (Probably not). this is just one example. Today is is pretty darned easy to tell if someone is here legally or not....if you REALLY want to find out.

"Does it bother you at all that they sent the children born here in America back, too?"

Not a concern as it would be highly unlikely to happen again.

"Isn't this the web site that thinks the government and police are akin to the Nazis? And all that was okay with you?"

Isn't this a Conservative web site, you know... having to do with all that silly stuff like the CONSTITUTION and protecting our Republic? Not to mention rule of law.

It's not the Nazi card; it's the Hypocrite Card, pal.

One does not need to engage in your so-called Nazi tactics. Just simply ask for proof of legal residence in this country when applying for jobs or renting an apartment or when using government services or when pulled over for traffic stops. In other words, common-sense approaches to dealing with this problem that are not draconian. But the political will has to be there, as Eisenhower demonstrated. I see no such political will today.

I hope I don't see you on any of the threads whining about police brutality and the government taking your rights away from you.

Ah - so now you're comparing cops killing an elderly woman in a no-knock raid to asking people if they are here legally? Nice hyperbole.

You're showing the strains of situational ethics.

This from someone who turns on a dime from comparing Bush's numbers to Eisenhower's numbers as praise of Bush, and then turns around and decries Eisenhower's approach. Talk about situational ethics.

You're not saying that the police/real estate/bankers, etc. actually ask people to "see their papers" now, are you?

Talk about apples and oranges.

You're dead on.

I'm so frustrated and disappointed by all of the garbage that's going on.

I would otherwise NOT be for the passage of any such bill, but at this point, perhaps it's time to send the freaking base a "message", as it "will only last 2 years".

President Bush will not sign anything with full amnesty, but at this point, I wish he would.

You're not saying that the police/real estate/bankers, etc. actually ask people to "see their papers" now, are you?

The City of Hazelton, PA, passed a provision that does just that. If someone is going to sign a year lease, it makes sense that they can demonstrate they can be here legally that entire year.

I'm curious - are you this aghast at Bush bending wiretapping guidelines for national security purposes? I'm not, because during extraordinary times, such steps are necessary. I've seen you defend Bush doing such as well.

Well, we've basically ignored illegal immigration for 20 years. So this problem also calls for extraordinary measures. How many people have been killed by illegal drunk drivers since 9-11, just for starters? I would venture that number is in the thousands as well.

So, once again, I'd say you are the one with situational ethics problems.

"Full amnesty" or "pathway to citizenship" which I guess is a long drawn out amnesty.

Same thing. LOL

First, please ping Howlin if you are going to mention her.

Second, she is defending Bush here. I think she is engaging in some logical contorsionism in doing such. However, she will not pretend otherwise as to her reasons, as opposed to Dane, who is quite two-faced on this issue.

Actually, since I read the reports and believe he's well within his rights, I've never even bothered to defend him to those who don't know the facts, as there is no need to.

I'm just appalled at a door to door sweep of Mexicans just because they're Mexicans.

Call me whatever you must, but I just think anybody who supports that is not living in the real political world.

>>>>Reagan Man...your decision helped to bring about the loss of both Houses of Congress to the Democrats, and now it appears that as a result of that loss, millions of illegal aliens will get a fast-track citizenship handed to them.

LOL What nonsense. Sorry, I don't have that power. The credit for the defeat of the GOP on election day 2006, belongs to Bush, Hastert, Frist, Boehner, Blunt and the other dolts in the GOP leadership. Period. My decision was to vote straight Republican, just like I have for 34 years. That's what counts. Standing up and speaking out against poor leadership and failed domestic policy was also my decision. Like the Senate bill S.2611, and its later incarnations, a liberal immigration reform proposal that Bush has supported from day one. Not HR4437 that the House approved, and then allowed to die in conference. My right of free speech as an American citizen, enables me to speak out against the anti-conservative agenda being advanced by the GOP in WashDC. I see there remain numerous FReepers still in denial as to why Nov7th was such an historic loss for the GOP. Amazing! If you liberal-moderate-centrist Republicans keep acting so irresponsibly, 2008 will be a bigger loss then 2006 was. Conservative members of the GOP are fed up with big government Republicans. They expressed that disapproval on election day, and rightfully so.
