Terri's Story
Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation ^ | December 3,2006 | Schindler Foundation

Posted on 12/03/2006 3:03:26 AM PST by 8mmMauser

Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.

Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.

Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the family’s dog, Bucky.

Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.

In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.

The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terri’s church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.

In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.

In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy – neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.

On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pasco’s Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.

They shut their minds and their view inside a box. They won't look at anything outside the box. What have they to say to others on the outside? They have their formulas but no facts. It's all old and it's nearly all false. The party's over.

Surely some of the cops at Pinellas Park were uncomfortable with Terri's execution, and with their legal duty neither to intervene themselves, nor to allow anyone else to interfere. That must have been tough on decent people. They take pride in doing their duty, but when duty makes them act unjustly, they are torn apart.

Some of the police would have been good recruits for the SS. They seemed to take a special joy in harassing the vigil.

I can get specific on that. For the most part they appeared professional enough, the JBS guy, the one with the blond buzz cut and dark glasses, and, yes, real jackboots, loved the attention and his role as a comic book villain. Professional as they were, they saw us as the enemy, the threat.

But one of them earned my sympathy. He seemed like a real honest Joe who was probably sold a bill of goods on why they were there. I would see him frequently, always say "Hi." and he would smile warmly. Other times when nobody noticed, he would look sad, distressed, and a couple times I saw his eyes red and tears welled up. I think of him often and wonder how he fared afterwards.

Maybe they are like a band of bedraggled hyenas past their prime, unable to cut from the herd and just hoping for strays to wander too far away. I do not underestimate their thirst for attack if the chance arises.

It is just that when they do, their cover is blown. Sometimes it is a real unmasking of liberal hyenas in conservative wool, a joy of sorts to behold. (hard to bite when wearing a mask...)

Although they stay away, they are still howling in the shadows ready to strike the unwary, and prowling the related non-Terri threads as we have noticed recently.

As we note in BykrBayb's post above, #1,501, Terri's Legacy lives and grows. Doing so, it haunts the left who can rid themselves of her Legacy no more than Lady MacBeth could rid herself of the blood stain spot. Stories appear daily with examples of the leftists trying to reverse her Legacy, by futile attempts to lie that decent folk of the world would wish to see her die, and condemn those who would seek to aid her.

In this case, they evoke even a more extreme view. In reality, of course the event was very much in parallel with the events of Easter, but real Christians know that, ersatz ones can hardly comprehend.

But let’s not be too hard on the pastor – he is hardly the only culprit. Have you noticed how inept and vapid is our public theological discourse in this ostensibly Christian country? When we (like Rev. Certain) talk about God, the Bible, life and death, we reveal our ignorance of the Scriptures or, worse, a tendency to twist them.

“A young woman in Florida is being dehydrated and starved to death. If we do not act, she will die of thirst…Terri Schiavo has survived her passion weekend, and she has not been forsaken. No more words, Mr. Speaker. She is waiting. The members are here. The hour has come.”

A smashing mini-sermon – except that the allegory, upon closer examination, is utterly invalid. Jesus Christ came to his “passion weekend” (a flip statement if there ever were one) for the express purpose of dying, and “the hour has come” in John’s gospel explicitly points to Jesus’ approaching death and glorification.

This one comes from GovtExec.com. Having come from an environment surrounded by these types, I brought along an observation. Not meaning to disparage all government execs, and having known many fine ones, I speak in generalities.

Whereas a Christian or Jew may hope when he dies he may go to Heaven, a government bureaucrat of whom I speak expects to die and go to Florida or Arizona. Hence the myopia, leaning to the left, which allows their perspective on Terri. Christian faith or any for that matter is simply one more facet, nothing more nothing less...

But Fabrizio continues, "By 2006, the president's image had eroded severely. What was once a very popular war in Iraq (a defining policy) had turned unpopular, and key interest groups -- conservative Christians, to name just one -- flexed their muscle on issues like Terri Schiavo and gay marriage. Most folks knew the GOP controlled Congress, and they saw them going along with the president on Iraq, or going along with the conservative Christians on Schiavo. The average person was paying more at the pump, was worried about their health care costs, and these folks up in Washington aren't doing anything to turn Iraq around, lower gas prices, or make my life better."

Democrats Seek the Middle on Social Issues, yeah, sure they do.

No surprise this came from the New York Times. Shucks, they even use the word "mantra" this time. Can't they do better than this "right to die kill"? Even trolls here can do better than that.

...........................

In fact, Democrats, like Republicans, have long had to fight the notion that they are in thrall to the advocacy groups because of these hot-button issues. Republicans clearly took a dip in the polls after their intervention in the right-to-die case of Terri Schiavo, and many strategists say their intense pursuit of a ban on same-sex marriage and other conservative causes ultimately backfired, making them seem out of touch.

I was hoping you would. But I was hoping to hear of more kindness from the policemen. When we were kids, there was a clear understanding that the police were part of the community they served. Now they call us "subjects" and treat everyone as the enemy.

The play's the thing...

..........................

At the same time, as the world has been watching Pope John Paul II receiving the last rites and we have been taking sides over the ‘right’ to live or die of the unfortunate Terri Schiavo in America, the play has an extraordinary immediacy too.

So why have we not seen this exhilarating play of ideas on the London stage since 1936? The truth is it was in great need of a new translation into English and Schnitzler is wonderfully served here by Samuel Adamson’s pacy, witty new version. Full credit then to director Mark Rosenblatt for commissioning it and giving it a production to match.

Kindness was the exception. They were professional, but not the friendly neighborhood cops I remember.

The mission was clear, simple, if not ludicrous. Protect the killing of Terri. Period. If it took a SWAT team to ensure nobody would rescue her, that was normal. If it took two armed guards at her bedside to protect her from people who would seek to keep her alive, that was normal. We were the threat. They were discharging their duty as they saw it.

More info on the reality of stem cells in a thread from wagglebee.

Verfaillie and her colleagues published the results of their studies in the Journal of Experimental Medicine showing that the adult stem cells can be manipulated and turned into a wide variety of other cells and tissues. That's the kind of ability that scientists backing embryonic stem cell research like.

>> Maybe they are like a band of bedraggled hyenas past their prime

I spoke of minds in a box. The box I had in mind is specific: the case as defined by Felos thinking and Greer rulings. Felos himself marveled at his ability to plant his spin (and lies) in the media, where they still echo every day.

What strikes me much more about the visitors is a hardness of heart. They are humorless. They never engage in the friendly banter that makes forum life pleasant. Neither will they enter the "give and take" of healthy discussion. They are a clique, who define their relationship by a common hatred and who speak "normally" only to each other. We have seen it uncounted times: we welcome them respectfully, but instead of offering the simplest courtesy in reply, they call us, oh, whackjobs or [expletive deleted] nuts.

Now surely this is very odd? There are times when emotion is required. The normal, apposite emotions for Terri are sympathy, compassion, kindness. Terri herself was blameless: unquestionably the victim in the drama. Lack of appropriate sympathy toward her plight is shocking. It's anti-social. It's palpably mean. We are dealing with nascent sociopaths.

But then, who else but a fellow sociopath would applaud and defend Michael Schiavo's career of cruelty?

An example of the sociopathic behavior I mentioned. They are so out of touch, they have no sense of what normal people think and feel.

I'm sure you are right that they are like Lady MacBeth trying to cleanse her accusing conscience.

The lady finds a successful substitute to use in place of tumor-causing embryonic stem cells -- then says it's a triumph for research on the tumor-causing ESCs.

This is weird. It's like they have a religious belief in human sacrifice.

Trust the Times conveniently to forget that both parties voted for the "intervention" and that the "intervention" didn't do one bit of good anyway. If there was a dip in the polls afterward, the better case is that voters were distressed that nobody rescued a helpless disabled woman who was being put to death by bullies.

NEW PLEDGE TO GO OUT AT COLORADO RIGHT TO LIFE'S
JANUARY 20, 2007 MARCH FOR LIFE - 1:30 pm WEST STEPS STATE CAPITOL"

40 Years, 50 Million Dead
One Commitment

On the Rule of Law regarding the intentional killing of innocent people,
including by abortion, suicide, and euthanasia,
I commit myself to upholding without exception God’s enduring command, “Thou Shall Not Murder.”

Ramifications: My commitment to God’s prohibition of murder means that:

* I will never approve of any judicial ruling which in any way violates Do Not Murder.
* I will withhold backing from any judge who issues or defends rulings that violate Do Not Murder.
* I will oppose any law which violates Do Not Murder by allowing the intentional killing of any innocent.
* I will never support any law that regulates the killing of the innocent.
* I will never support any law that effectively ends, “and then you can kill the innocent.”
* I will agree that, “Do not kill the innocent” (Exodus 23:7) applies even to the baby fathered by a criminal.
* I will recognize that it is morally acceptable to let an irreversibly dying person die.
* I will teach others that it is wrong to starve people to death, including the elderly, infirm, disabled, and infants.
* I will never support any attempt to “do evil that good may come of it” (Romans 3:8).
* I will oppose any man-made process where it requires compromise on “You shall not murder” (Rom. 13:9).
* I will oppose any philosophy that elevates man’s law above God’s enduring command, “Thou Shall Not Murder.”
* I will never allow political goals to move me to compromise on Do Not Murder.
* I will never in any way legitimize the intentional killing of innocent people, from fertilization to natural death.
* I will recognize that any pro-life effort that compromises on Do Not Murder is a false hope.
* I will teach others that whenever these two authorities conflict, “we must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

Signature: ______________________________ Date: ____________ Print Name ______________________

City: _________________________________State: _______________Phone:_______________________

Background: Forty years and fifty-million victims since Colorado became the first state to legalize the killing of the innocent, this 40/50/1 Commitment comes from Colorado Right to Life, in an effort to correct our own failure. Our state has failed America. And our pro-life community has failed God, because for political reasons we have so often compromised on Thou Shall Not Murder that today we have difficulty discerning right from wrong. Many in America’s pro-life community have become legal positivists, defending our officials, laws, and rulings that intentionally kill the innocent, as long as they comply with our legal process. Sixty years ago at Nuremberg, America prosecuted German judges who had personally opposed the holocaust, but nevertheless upheld and complied with laws to intentionally kill the innocent; today, our Christian pro-life community holds up such officials as the hope and heroes of the pro-life movement, demonstrating our own slide into moral relativism. We have lost the moral high ground, and now watch the suicide, euthanasia and even child euthanasia movements gain ground. We must never again become accessories in the regulation of killing the innocent in the false hope that we thereby move toward victory. When those who fear God will compromise on murder for political gain, the world becomes increasingly dangerous for children and the vulnerable.

Please register your commitment online, by mail, or by phone at the contact information below and see our website for more information and for a list of signatories including pro-life organizations and leaders, and the number of private individuals, listed by city and state, who have signed this pledge.

These commitments will be gathered until our 40th Commemoration
of the Nation's first abortion law - signed in Colorado April 25, 1967.
Alan Keyes will speak about our God given rights and Rev Flip Benham
will do the Emancipation Proclamation for the Pre-born Ceremony,
which he did in Jackson, Mississippi this past July.
