Theresa Marie Schindler was born to Robert and Mary Schindler on December 3, 1963. She was the first of three children the Schindlers would have.
Terri was a shy, but comical, child who had an affinity for music, animals and the arts. She kept a small circle of friends and was dear to schoolmates, neighboring families and her own extended family.
Following high school, Terri came into her own. She developed a knack for sketching and doodling. She enjoyed outings with her friends. She was an adoptive mother to the familys dog, Bucky.
Terri attended Catholic School while growing up and remained close to her faith throughout her life.
In 1983, Terri met Michael Schiavo at Bucks County Community College and the two began dating. He was the first romantic interest Terri had.
The couple was engaged within a few months and married a year later at Terris church in Southampton, Pa. She was 21.
In 1986, Terri and Michael relocated to Pinellas County, Florida and her parents followed three months later.
In 1990, at the age of 26, Terri suffered a mysterious cardio-respiratory arrest for which no cause has ever been determined. She was diagnosed with hypoxic encephalopathy neurological injury caused by lack of oxygen to the brain. Terri was placed on a ventilator, but was soon able to breathe on her own and maintain vital function. She remained in a severely compromised neurological state and was provided a PEG tube to ensure the safe delivery of nourishment and hydration.
On March 31, 2005, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of marked dehydration following more than 13 days without nutrition or hydration under the order of Circuit Court Judge, George W. Greer of the Pinellas-Pascos Sixth Judicial Court. Terri was 41.
It's interesting that you should mention the mood of the audience "as the credits rolled." I rented the film, and at the end as the credits rolled I was so stirred by it that I called about five friends and told them how important that it was that they see the film. Every person I called said they could hear in my voice how much it meant to me!
The information you have provided me is invaluable, and only enhances the words all the more for me. Thank you so much for sharing!
I think that this thread in Terri's honor is proof for me that all of us can be just as effective in our lives as Sophie Scholl and her brother, if we care enough about "life" and have the courage to take a stand. I appreciate the encouragement that I have received from this thread. All of you remind me of Sophie!

Julia Jentsch should have won the Oscar too! As you can see, she won about every major award Europe had to offer, for her portrayal of Sophie.

The first is that we thought we had a choice of life for Annie but the reality is that we did not. The medical records, which we instinctively felt compelled to obtain and have had reviewed, reveal no signs of pneumonia. An effective Do not resuscitate was ordered without our knowledge or consent. The final computerized medication report from the intensive care of an excellent hospital is inexplicably missing.
The hospital issued a letter of apology stating that sometimes communication does not occur in as clear and consistent a fashion as we would wish. For that, we are very sorry. Recent developments in medical science can be used to diagnose and terminate certain lives but the choice to use medicine to prolong these lives doesnt seem to be an option.
During her 80 days, our little Annie taught us our greatest lessons in life. Through her life, we experience the deepest sorrow and the most intense love. She taught us the true meaning and purpose of life and we are forever changed as a family. Our children have learned that if they are ever in need, their family will love them, protect them and do anything to support them, just like we did for Annie. They developed an incredible empathy for the disabled and the vulnerable.

Nicknamed "King Jeb," he led with an iron will and an ideological bent, transforming what he saw as a tangle of red tape and squanderer of public money into a smaller, business-friendly administration needing fewer tax dollars to run.
As he passes the mantle to Charlie Crist on Tuesday, Bush's legacy is that of a leader adamant about doing things his way, who fearlessly championed such controversial causes as school vouchers, faith-based prisons and prolonging the life of Terri Schiavo.
Florida's outgoing governor was determined to lead the state his way

Parents, naturally unsuspecting and expecting good will and mercy are babes in the woods when they allow an upper hand to medical staff in places which regularly treat kids like this. How were they to expect that eternal vigilance (apologies to EV for using his name in vain!) is the only way handicapped kids might survive?
We went through years of battles to protect our own son, many times shocked at the willingness of medical professionals to opt in favor of death. I do not wish to disparage the good ones because numerous fine professionals exist, but the bad ones are ubiquitous as well. We would see kids who were basically ok just disappear following some "optional" treatments which we figured were right out of Nazi Germany. The key was that the parents for whatever reason were not vigilant, or simply placed undue trust in the staff. No outcries came, none we ever heard.
I think the problem is that nearly all medical professionals really do care about life and truly have the best interests of the patient. The unsuspecting are then "blindsided" by the vultures who have no moral compass. How are people to know? It is frightening to realize that one "caring" person can turn out to be nothing more than a merchant of death.
"I find it really sad that science can. is and will be used for this kind of evil."
I find this sad too. Your baby was born without any problems?

Hmmmmmmmmm. Why don't they call it SAVING the life of Terri Schiavo? Prolonging doesn't really fit what millions begged Governor Jebbie to do.
If someone is being robbed at gunpoint, do they call 9-11 and say "Please prolong my life!"
NO. They say "Help!"
Tim Johnson either has nutrition via IV or has a feeding tube?

Oh, my, can Mr. Thomas talk? If not, he could be exterminated by the "wife" with the permission of liberal FL courts. I wonder why this judge is keeping custody with the mother, considering that FL judges are no friend of "life" in general. None of the FL "Supremes", including "conservative" appointees of JEB favored allowing Terri to live. And I shudder to think what could happen if the mother were to die. The American people are no friend of "inconvenient" life, only "life" where there is a "choice."
Yes, I have noticed that the liberal media does not mention that Johnson has a feeding tube, assuming that he must. There is no equality in America unless Republicans agree with Democrats.
Luckily Scott Thomas has been sort of granted a reprieve, in no small part, we suppose, because of the publicity. Looks like he is fairly safe from his menacing spouse these days and is actually with his loving family. We are hoping enough light has shown on his case to keep the danger at bay. That is why it may be useful for us to keep up a reminder, that he not slip out of the light. Same is true with Haleigh Poutre who would be in real peril if the light dimmed.
