Lots of good information Rt66 but it doesn't prove they took rt41. They could have Googled a map and took a route that looked good on paper. They may have even gone down to Grants Pass and took rt199 to 101 and it has a few narrow places in the bluffs above the Smith River. 199 would have taken them too far south of Gold Beach to be practical but someone may have told them of the dangers of 38 or 41 in a storm.
Dinner at 8pm is 3 hours after they called the BB for key arrangements and Roseburg has good cell service...
