If I were younger I would drive up to Crescent City and take 199 and look for tire marks or other evidence of a car sliding off the road into the Smith River. I have driven mountain of the North West for 50 years and have a good eye for prior accidents...

I know highway 42 pretty well, having taken iout of Roseburg, throug Winston at to Mrytle Point ant then to Coos Bay...The road is not aas bad as it used to be, but I have only driven it in the summer, for the past ten years--never in inclimate weather...

If they veered off the major highways up there in Oregon, and hit the back roads, it could be pretty dicey, especially during stormy weather...
