A friend heard an ad on the radio yesterday where a local furniture store out in West Los Angeles is having this promotion where if you spend $2000 or more at their store from now until kickoff of the UCLA/USC game this Saturday and if UCLA pulls off the upset, then you get to keep all of the purchases you made at that store for free. Interesting way to get people to buy from them but it can obviously be very costly to them. The owner is not going out on the limb of course but still a bit risky.

Maybe Coach Karl goes and loads up on some furniture to show his boys he has faith in them.

Furniture dealers have been doing that this season in several other cities - can't think which ones, right off hand - but obviously Mattress Mac here in Houston could do it as a standing bet on the Texans and not have to pay out very much, lol.
Actually, I think some of the numbers have been $700,000 or $800,000 - usually less than $1 million the dealers have had to pay. They would spend a lot more than that on other advertising and they get lots of goodwill PR out of it.
