The Bush Administration has indicated it wants doctors, clinics, and hospitals to provide flu immunizations to illegal immigrants.

In an interview with KFOX-TV, Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt was asked if the federal government has any safeguards to prevent illegal immigrants from catching the flu. Leavitt responded by saying doctors should give flu shots to "every person."..............

It is indefensible and doing so shows nothing but absolutely ridiculous thinking, to the point where some people here are beginning to make total fools out of themselves, falling over each other to defend anything, no matter what it is.

Actually, I have to agree -- that's just good public policy for all of us. If illegals aren't immunized, they will become a carrier population for the flu, and there are so many of them, they could also become a source for mutated versions of the virus that are not stopped by the current year's immunizations.

It would be especially important for those who work directly with sick people (people who work in doctor's offices, hospitals, pharmacies, etc). My mom is one who has to get a flu shot every year as a result, as she works in a pharmacy.

Besides that, being sick just plain sucks.

EVERY person should get the flu shot. Everyone. Their job is to manage disease. It is not the Health Services job to do the Border Patrols work. So sober up and think ONE time rather then continue to make total fools of yourselves on this issue.

Getting flu shots is a Public Health issue that has NOTHING to do with if they should be here or not. Just how exactly are you going to have them "prove" their citizenship? I bet none of you could prove your legal citizens of this country upon demand.

This is the perfect opportunity for a politician to refute the Amnesty Now propaganda network. They can use to to say
"See we don't just hate them, we seen their needs but we do not think they should be here."

They pols have to go out and listen to all their consiutents views NOT just you people with 100 my way or nothings views. The current flu shot given this year is a combination of the 2 or 3 most prevalent strains from last season. If they bring a *new* variety from their home countries, this shot won't make much difference. I'm more worried about the *really* bad diseases they might bring. I wonder if health issues are part of any *comprihensive* immigration plan or will that be dealt with as needed?

My appointment to get mine is next week. Last week, I had the flu. Still getting over it. Tried getting in the first day I ran a temp for a Amantadine/Rimantidine shot, but my idiot doctors office told me to come back in four days. Anti-virals are to be given within the first 24-48 hours.
