New U.S. dollar coins hide 'In God We Trust'

"In God We Trust," the official national motto since 1956 and a familiar sight on U.S. coins and currency, will be hard to find on the new presidential dollar coins scheduled for release to the public Feb. 15, 2007.

The new gold-colored dollar pieces, featuring images of U.S. presidents, will move the inscription from the face of the coin to the thin edge, along with the year and the previous national motto, "E Pluribus Unum," Latin for "Out of Many, One."

Unfortunately, there are some who want that particular amendment applied with restrictions.

"Majority rule" is simply a phrase to describe representative government (as set up in the Constitution). Must be the public school thing again.

Last time I checked, if the US was "majority rule," then Gore would have won the 2000 presidential election. Bush won the election because the US is a representative republic, and not a "majority rules" democracy.

I'm very thankful for the many experienced soldiers my son will be with. As far as I know, he will be in the Kandahar region.

We are visiting Germany to say our "see you laters" in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to visiting the base and area.

May God bless and protect Neil! Our kids are always our kids no matter how old they are!

That's the electoral college system for you. Nice job cherry-picking from the rest of my reply.

Well, they were concerned about another dollar coin being a flop...They sure are doing a fabulous job this time.../sarcasm

(i.e.: Susan B. Anthony dollar coin, Sackajweja "sp? who cares" dollar coin)

Both of those didn't really circulate as much as they hoped for...

But with this unGodly coin, I'm sure they'll do their best to flood the market with them, and try to spin positive things about it...

Sometimes I just don't know why we tolerate the stupidity of our entire desk riding government???

I believe we should just fire them all...

Sure, I think they should be fired over a coin...Wouldn't that just be a hoot...Here they are worried we'd be storming the Bastille, yet we just vote them all out in '08, and insert non-incumbents...

Wouldn't offend me a bit...

If you're a christian, then obviously it's not a virtue. I don't operate under the christian value system however and selfishness is a virtue under the one I do follow.

You do not get to choose what is or is not a virtue. Virtues, morals, values are culturally ascribed and not decided upon by individuals. Perhaps you should return to school and educate yourself.

No one will actually use the darn things.

That all depends on whether or not they keep printing the paper dollar.

Just checked. My earliest Wheat - 1919.

I have about a dozen Indian Head pennies. I also have a penny that is about the size of a quarter dated 1850 somthing. Problem is that it has a small hole in it. I suspect someone wore it on a neckless.

Interestingly enough, Brenner's initials are still on the obverse of the penny on the bust's bevel toward the bottom of the coin...

It's just his large initials on the reverse that created such a firestorm...

From the fourth and final stanza of The Star-Spangled Banner:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation,
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto—“In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Francis Scott Key recognized "In God We Trust" as our national motto way back in 1814. And "In God We Trust" has graced our nation's coins since 1864. Sounds to me like it's the atheists, not the Christians and other deists, who are the johnnies-come-lately to this debate.

Yeah, sucks to be wrong, doesn't it....or do you still not understand that the electoral system exists to counter the idea that "majority rules." As for a reply to the rest of your drivel: If the founders wanted the US to be run on Christian "law", then they would have said so. They surely had ample chance....yet chose not to.

Kinda like they chose not to have a government of "majority rules".

Notice that under George Washington it has "First President" and the dates. Presumably they will have similar short descriptives for the other presidents

WJC - "put some ice on that"

JEC - "Wear a sweater"

LBJ - "good buddies with Billie Sol Estes and Bobby Baker"

Robert left to return to Iraq on the 22nd, and I haven't been on the computer much lately.

I followed your threads and you and your family have been in my prayers during what I know was a very difficult Thanksgiving.

It's great to see you posting! God Bless you and your family!

A "full democracy" would enable the tryanny of the MAJORITY, would it not?

So it would seem, but the problem is the means by which we slouch. It is the ill-defined and subjective doctrine of "fairness" that drives a scoiety's slide toward democracy. The inevitable consequence of the doctrine is the tyranny of minorities and the ultimate destruction of democracy. Hayek and others have written at length on the self-destructive nature of democracy.

Sorry, I kind of pulled this off-topic, though, didn't I?

"A $20 bill is a $20 credit, someone else's liability."

Actually, a $20 bill is an asset to its owner but a liability to no one, especially not to he Federal Reserve. Ironically, then, an increase in such "outside money" (cash outside the banking system) raises national wealth.
