The California Republican Party is conducting an internal audit over why its unprecedented $20 million get-out-the-vote effort didn't produce wins for their candidates on election day. Only Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and insurance commissioner Steve Poizner captured statewide offices for the GOP, which also failed to pick up any new seats in the Legislature. One Republican incumbent, Secretary of State Bruce McPherson, was unseated.
Some conservative Republicans are demanding answers from the party. State Board of Equalization member Bill Leonard, who was reelected to his regional seat by a large margin, already has asked for the audit of the statewide effort. He has heard "rumors" that the GOP telephoned voters using scripts written by Schwarzenegger's team that only mentioned Schwarzenegger, that there was "mischief" with literature distributed on door-hangers in neighborhoods, and that the Republican Party may have called non-Republicans to encourage them to vote.
"... what is needed is full disclosure by the CRP leadership, a detailed political audit of how this campaign was waged. The party members, donors and volunteers deserve to know the full truth and the actual numbers."
--snip--
Mike Spence, another Republican activist, said other problems emerged during the get-out-the-vote effort: the GOP sparsely canvassed precincts in eastern Los Angeles County and an outreach program to churches "died wandering in the desert." He also has called for an audit. Spence said the conservative ideology of some Republicans, such as lieutenant governor candidate Tom McClintock, can't account for their losses. If so, he said, why did a moderate like McPherson not benefit from the get-out-the-vote message that swept Schwarzenegger to victory in a landslide?
California GOP chairman Duf Sundheim said he thinks the $20 million effort proved effective, particularly in early voting by mail. ...

You keep telling yourself that, Jersey...
Thank you; you've just indicated that any form of representative republic is utter anathema to you.
OK, so what's wrong with an audit to see if Dems were pulled to the polls by GOP GOTV efforts?
Look, it comes down to the simple fact that Republicans had an albatross around their necks which motivated even more Dems to vote. Doesn't mean Arnold's to blame.
The election's over, let's look at the facts and move on. I'm less worried about 2006 than McCain, Rudy and the other characters positioning for 2008! The time to decide our standard bearers is the primary season. Let's make it a good one!
Oh, and now's the time to get back to pulling Arnold rightward and demanding reforms again.
If the GOP grew testicles and took testosterone, perhaps they could counter the six years of Liberal crap the Party has wimped out on. My criticism goes for the entire country, not just California. Until they fight the Liberals head on and prove that what they're spewing are lies and distortions, they will continue to lose everywhere.
Who told you? One of the ilk herd perhaps.
FO said 'it seems' and that is not a lie. You supported Arnie's defeat, ergo, you supported Philth. Now you're attacking another Republican, Poiner. You're the deceitful one, and a real piece of work at that.
Sure, the ilk get tired of the truth, thats a given.
OK. I'll play. Make this one go away.
The CaGOP didn't even bother to run candidates in 7 congressional districts in California, giving thousands of Republicans in those districts no chance to voice their opinions in national affairs. One of those districts in the heart of the very conservative, San Joaquin Valley.
7 districts. No vote!
That does, indeed, sound like the CaGOP's MO.
There is no doubt that the CaGOP is wondering around in the wilderness. The lack of organization and the almost non existent leadership of Sundheim were the two main reasons why the Wilsonegger Gang was so easily able to co-opt the party in the summer of 2003.
The behavior of the CaGOP over these past 3 years has be inexcusable and the party will continue to languish on the fringe as it pursues expediency in a desperate effort to remain significant. The necessary changes in the CaGOP must start at the local level, at the Central Committees, if the party is too survive.
Donor development, volunteer recruitment, development at secondary and post secondary institutions, the creation of opportunities for young volunteers to participate as interns and identification/development of potential candidates are all local undertakings.
Stop it you two... You're crackin me up!!!
Bingo! We have a winner.
What part of I was not represented(my views on how to govern) in the least in this election for governor do you not understand?
The true art is:
1) First lure these Republican trolls out from under their bridge.
Usually a positive word about one of their candidates will get them out into the sunshine, out of curiosity, if nothing else. Try "Schwarzenegger is good for the Republican Party"
2) Then provoke them into climbing up the creek embankment to better do battle
Stick to politics, keep it impersonal and don't mention facts whatever you do. I'd suggest " But if Schwarzenegger keeps going left, the CaGOP will be in shambles bu 2010."
3) Once the troll is out of the creek bottom, on the shoulder of the highway, interject something personal that will drive them, in a rage, onto the public highway.
I personally prefer " Your associate Duf is an incompetent fool. Prominent party officials are demanding an investigation right now for corruption"
The combination of their poor eyesight and blind rage will make them a perfect target for a drive-by Democrat.
After the collision flee. The odor is overpowering.
Solely because they decided to throw a tantrum and not vote for ANYBODY. Representative government means, ultimately, that SOMEBODY isn't going to be "represented" somewhere, because each election has a winner and a loser.
Or are you hoping for something like what Obrador is doing in Mexico? Reading onward:
taxation without representation will lead to a new Boston Tea Party. I have a feeling it's coming sooner than you think.
I think I get it. You want to use the "I'm not represented" BS to justify a program of terrorism and insurrection.
Listen up, I didn't agree with 90% of Rinolds platform and if you did, admit it, you are No conservative.
