A Real Moderate Takes a Stand Against CAIR and the Flying Imams
National Review Online ^ | 4/6/07 | Andy McCarthy

Posted on 04/07/2007 2:55:22 PM PDT by ButThreeLeftsDo

Three cheers — no, three million cheers — for Zuhdi Jasser, a practicing doctor and retired Navy Lieutenant Commander, who is trying to catalyze fellow moderate Muslims into standing up against the jihadists and their cheerleaders. He has written this important article at FamilySecurityMatters.org denouncing CAIR and the lawsuit it is pushing on behalf of the infamous Flying Imams against US Airways and the “John Doe” passengers who had the temerity to be frightened and speak out.

Read it all. Here is one excerpt of the words we’ve been longing to hear from Muslim moderates:

Make no mistake. This lawsuit forces our courts and our community to firmly clarify our rules of engagement and the tools we can and cannot use to stay safe and maintain our freedoms. If this case is not thrown out early by the courts it stands to chill civilian reporting of suspicious behavior which will further embolden those who target our American citizenry—Muslim and non-Muslim. Frankly, it will also create a deeper wedge and greater fear whether based on reality or ignorance between the Muslim and non-Muslim community. Contrary to the CAIR spin machine and their sympathizers, this case is about much more than a few Muslim imams from Phoenix who felt their rights (to fly) were infringed by U.S. Airways and some passengers (John Does) who passed notes to the crew. It is about much more than such a simplistic view of the known facts.

As a nation, our collective response to this will be a defining moment in the articulation of our values, while also defining our priorities in defense of civilian America against the threat of militant Islamism and all those enemies who target us.

We are seeing at play in this case elements that illustrate the pathology of political Islam and how it blindly drives many Muslims who believe in it, whether or not their means are wise or their ends are understood. The longer we avoid the deeper discussion of the machinations of political Islam (Islamism) in America, the longer we allow it to take cover and thrive under the guise of political correctness within our pluralistic democracy. The longer we continue to disengage from the real aims and overriding denial of Islamist organizations that wage public battle through their toxic mixture of religion and politics, the further we fall behind in this war of ideas. Without engagement, Islamism, Salafism, and radicalism will continue to flourish within the very construct of our Constitutional government and protection of our Bill of Rights - including its establishment clause – and all the while Islamists strive to create a society which honors neither.

“Ouster Sought Of Official In Imam Case”
By JOSEPH GOLDSTEIN
Staff Reporter of the Sun
April 11, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Mayor Bloomberg is being asked to dismiss from the city’s Commission on Human Rights the lawyer involved in a lawsuit that could discourage ordinary citizens from reporting what they believe to be suspicious activity.

In a letter sent to Mr. Bloomberg on Monday, an assemblyman of Queens, Rory Lancman, said Omar Mohammedi’s position on the human rights commission undermines efforts to encourage New Yorkers to act as the eyes and ears of law enforcement.

Mr. Bloomberg made Mr. Mohammedi a commissioner for the human rights commission in 2002. As a private attorney, Mr. Mohammedi is representing a group of imams from Arizona who are suing US Airways after they were removed from a flight last November. He is also suing any passengers on the flight who alerted authorities to what they regarded as suspicious activity by the imams.”

Minnesota College to Install Facilities for Muslim Daily Prayers (to wash feet!)
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | April 12, 2007 | Katherine Kersten

Posted on 04/12/2007 3:12:25 PM PDT by anglian

Cultural clashes involving Islam have recently made headlines in Minnesota. At the airport, some Muslim taxi drivers refuse to transport passengers carrying alcohol; at Target stores, some Muslim cashiers won’t scan pork products. Now there’s a new point of friction: Minneapolis Community and Technical College is making plans to use taxpayer funds to install facilities for ritual foot-washing.

“Lawmaker blasts imams’ attorney”
By Audrey Hudson
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
April 14, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The lawyer representing six imams who are suing an airline and unknown “John Doe” passengers should be removed from his position as a New York City commissioner on human rights, said a state assemblyman.

“When it comes to suspicious or potentially terrorist activity, New Yorkers are encouraged to say something if they see something,” said Rory I. Lancman, assemblyman from Queens.

“Before they do so, I think they have a right to know that they won’t be sued by their own human rights commissioner, Omar Mohammedi,” said Mr. Lancman.

Mr. Lancman has asked Mayor Michael Bloomberg to demand that Mr. Mohammedi to resign his seat. “

MAC OKs Penalties For (Muslim) Cabbies Who Refuse Fares (MN)
WCCO.com ^ | 4/16/07 | AP

Posted on 04/16/2007 2:06:51 PM PDT by ButThreeLeftsDo

The operator of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Monday approved tougher penalties for cabdrivers who refuse service to travelers carrying alcohol, as some Muslim drivers have done for religious reasons.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission voted to suspend a driver’s airport taxi license for 30 days for the first offense and revoke it for two years for a second offense. The new penalties take effect May 11.

Airport officials say more than 70 percent of the cabbies at the airport are Muslim, and many of them claim Islamic law prohibits them from giving rides to people carrying alcohol.

Under the old rules, a driver who refused to transport someone carrying alcohol would be told to go to the back of the taxicab line. Airport officials said that since January 2002, there have been more than 4,800 instances of a driver refusing service because a customer possessed, or was suspected of possessing, alcohol.

The dispute has been simmering for months.

One pilot program had drivers who wouldn’t transport alcohol display a different top light on their cab, but the public’s reaction was overwhelmingly negative and other taxi drivers who feared it would make travelers avoid taxis altogether.

On Monday, cab driver Abdinoor Dolal called the penalties punitive and asked commissioners to take a measured approach. Other drivers urged the commissioners to vote against the new penalties and consider compromises.

However, commissioners said the new penalties were needed to ensure customers get safe and reliable taxi service at the airport.

“Today’s action will strengthen compliance with our taxicab ordinance and ensure people who seek taxi service receive it,” said MAC Executive Director Jeff Hamiel in a news release.

“Muslim Anti-Jewish Crusade Also Pursues Christians”
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “(IsraelNN.com) Muslim fundamentalists, aligned with Al Qaeda, bombed a Christian bookstore and two Internet cafes in Gaza on Saturday following previous attacks on churches as part of its religious crusade to replace the secular Fatah faction.

The “Sword of Islam” terrorist group took responsibility for the bombings of Internet cafes and music stores, which they consider an offense to the Muslim religion because they represent Western society.

The same group has issued warnings to Gaza women not to hang out in Internet cafes. The Swords of Islam has bombed more than a dozen Internet cafes in several weeks and destroyed the vehicle of one young man who was playing his radio tape at high volume. It also ordered women to wear a full-face veil.

Muslim courts in the Palestinian Authority (PA) increasingly operate as the moral authority over local areas, and one town in Samaria barred a music and dance festival.

The Muslim crusade has spread across the ocean to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the local Community and Technology College last week was accused of promoting religion because it acceded to Muslim demands for foot-washing basins, used by Muslims before prayers. The Minneapolis Star Tribune noted that the same college removed a coffee cart form the campus because it was playing music related to Christmas.”

Flying Imams Revisited: Part of Greater Islamic Strategy?
webcommentary.com ^ | 4/30/07 | Sher Zieve

Posted on 04/30/2007 9:52:33 AM PDT by ButThreeLeftsDo

Were the antics of the six Flying Imams merely additional tactics in the Islamic overall strategy of installing Sharia law in the USA? It would appear so, according to some self-avowed moderate Muslims and the results of other recently exhibited actions by US Islamists and their followers. Let’s take a look.

With regards to Minneapolis Airport’s Muslim cab drivers, in 2006 the Muslim American Society of Minneapolis (MAS) issued a fatwa (religious edict) to the Minneapolis Airport Commission (MAC). The fatwa advised MAC that Islamic law prohibits Muslims from being around the sin of alcohol and Muslim cabbies refused to transport any passenger fares who had packed sealed alcoholic products in their luggage. Other Muslim taxi drivers at the airport also refused to transport passengers with dogs, including guide dogs. Muslims consider not only pork to be unclean but, dogs also. After a great deal of foot-dragging and stalling, MAC finally voted on the Muslim cabbies’ demands, in April. With a unanimous 11-0 vote, Minneapolis Airport commissioners agreed to suspend airport taxi drivers who refuse fares. The first offense will carry a 30-day suspension and repeat offenses will result in 2-year taxi license revocations. Note: This is highly unusual, as lately all too many Muslim demands have been met with submission to them.

One of these recent submissions to Islam involves a Minneapolis Target store. Muslim Target checkers refuse to scan any pork products. Due to the recent Muslim cab driver flap, one can only assume this refusal-to-touch-or-scan also applies to any products containing alcohol. Instead of advising the Target Muslim checkers that scanning pork is part of their jobs, Target accommodated their demands. The retail giant has either transferred the Muslims to other duties or a non-Muslim employee is called to scan the items.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Muslims say when booking a flight, they feel everyone is watching them. Recently six Muslim Imams were removed from a flight in Minneapolis, sparking the national debate: is there such an issue as “flying while Muslim”, racially profiling Muslims after 9-11, or is it just prudent? Toledo area Muslims are aware of the controversy and many say they are deeply offended by it.”
