Rudy gets credit for getting rid of the squeegee men. He doesn't deserve it. Dinkins chief got rid of them when he heard Rudy was going to use them as an example of Dinkins ineffectual law enforcement policies.

When Dinkins handed over power, crime was much HIGHER than it was when he took over power.
That is what counts.

Tell that to New Orleans and Detroit.
You see, its got something to do how really BAD the situation was before you took over, and what you are able to do about it.
Crime has been really , really bad in Detroit and New Orleans, and its STILL really, really bad in Detroit and New Orleans ( they had to send in the National Guard to New Orleans recently again to combat crime). That is how bad things were in New York at one time, when we had to the tune of 3000 murders a year.
Today it's less than 600.

Now if someone were to go to Detroit, which is really bad, and bring crime down sharply, then we'd be talking about a real achievement.
Guiliani has already done that.
