Venezuela's presence in Mexican presidential investiture unconfirmed

Mexico City. - The government of Venezuela still has not confirmed whether it will send a representative to Mexico to the presidential investiture of Felipe Calderon, the 1st of December, according to the official list circulated today by the Mexican presidency.

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, who is seeking reelection in the elections which will be carried out in his country the 3rd of December, up to now has avoided recognizing Calderon's victory, among other reasons since he considers there were "strange things" in the Mexican elections.

According to information released today by the presidential spokesman of Mexico, Ruben Aguilar, as of now ten heads of State or of Government have verified that they will be present in Mexico, whereas others will send special representatives or their Foreign Ministers, as reviewed by the DPA.1

The preparations for the ceremony of the 1st of December are being carried out in Mexico in a tense evironment, because of the warning of the legislators of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) that they will hinder the ceremony in the Legislative Palace of San Lazaro.

The PRD, party of the losing candidate of the elections, the centro-leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador,2 asserts that Calderon's victory was the product of fraud.

The list of confirmed [attendees] so far includes the Presidents of Guatemala, Paraguay, El Salvador, Colombia, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, and Argentina; the Prime Ministers of Belize and Tanzania and Prince Felipe of Asturias.3

Great Britain will be represented at the level of Vice Prime Minister, while Japan and the Holy See will be sending special representatives.

Moreover, the Foreign Relations Ministers of Chile, Jamaica, the Netherlands, Germany, China, Finland, Italy, Haiti, the Czech Republic will be attending, among other countries.

Also the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), chilean Jose Miguel Insulza, the Secretary General of the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OCED), Mexican Angel Gurria, and a representative of the European Parliament.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Translator's Notes:

1 Acronym for the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, or the German News Agency.

2 Remember this is an article from a Venezuelan newspaper. From their perspective the definition of a "leftist" would be Hugo Chavez. By that comparison Lopez Obrador looks to be more to the center.

3 Prince of Spain, son of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia.

You have to expect this from a Commie pig that eats deviled eggs all day long and then complains about the "sulfur smell."

Hey Hugo. You can't boycott something you weren't invited to in the first place.

Call Cindy; a night with her will make you forget any insult!!

"Good source for news inside Venezuela"

Oh yes; I visit VCrisis.com on a regular basis.

I used VCrisis.com as a starting point for a thread a little while back:

Photo Essay of Rosales's "Caracas Avalanche" Rally

And on the earlier info providing the link to the Miguel Octavio article, let me say that I have read that article and I have linked it from other posts before. It's a real statement of what this election is all about.

conservative in nyc, I give a very high endorsement to the Daniel-Venezuela blog in all instances.

fight_truth_decay, from a quick glance of what you are citing and throwing around here may I say welcome?

You obviously have been keeping track of the right sites. Have you been tracking PubliusPundit.com and BloggingsbyBoz as well?

I'm with you! And with any other communist or socialist state that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of Mexico. Too bad they can't round up some of the players right there like Subcommander Marcos.

The Mexican's really love to march and cause unrest no matter if it is back home or here in the good old USA! Didn't Jimmy Carter certify their elections?

Isn't this similar to the scenario in "Sleeping Beauty". Malificent got upset because she wasn't invited to the party and so she put a curse on the Princess. Hugo gets invited, but wants to curse the whole affair because Calderon isn't a commie.

Do them a favor Hugo...stay home!

BTW, there have been massive anti-Chavez demonstrations in Venezuela. If he gets re-elected it will be due to "strange things" happening in his neighborhood AGAIN!

The Venezuelans have already come out en masse against Hugo. They were protesting in the streets. Hopefully, they will take more action against this despot.

My fantasy is Cindy Sheehan arriving late for lunch with her heros Hugo Chavez, Jimmy Carter, and George Soros, and trying to save them from a hail of bullets. Let them go out like their collective hero, Che Guevarra!

"Love your tag! It is so true!"

I should acknowledge that it is a John Adams (2nd U.S. Pres.) quote.

Not a problem at all, Saint. MUCH better to be pinged twice than not ever, eh?

I do have a question, though: Why does anyone, Calderon and PAN particularly, give a flying whoop-de-do rat's butt whether Hugo shows up at a ceremony or not? Hell's bells, man, were it I being inaugurated in D.F., I'd arrest every SOB with credentials from every not-even-close-to-republican-nation (SMALL 'r', please). Might as well find out who the local traitores are, eh?

And, the louder their embassies scream, the faster these capungos get waterboarded, IMNNHO.

Thanks yet again for your excellent coverage of events! i.
