WASHINGTON - The Santa Clara Chips of the National Football League?
That was Sen. Dianne Feinstein's disparaging suggestion Tuesday as she ramped up her campaign to keep the San Francisco 49ers in San Francisco. And if they moved to Santa Clara, she said they should not take the ``49er brand name with them.''
Sounding very much like the former mayor of San Francisco she is, Feinstein even suggested looking at legislation to block a franchise from keeping a team name when it leaves a city.

I agree with Dianne.
Phew, I read the first part about Feinstein wanting to strip and got a backwash of vomit, thank god I read the rest.
Here's a suggestion: Santa Clara Clowns
Everyone's trying to get away from Pelosi these days.
The only time I agree with her.
How about the San Francisco 69ers?
"she said they should not take the ``49er brand name with them.''"
Since when does the city government own any brand name? Would people agree to ban Coca-Cola from using its brand name if they moved out of Atlanta?
She has no power to do any such thing, and sounds like an idiot for even saying it. She's just miffed that San Francisco isn't getting a free new stadium - and thus no 2016 Olympic bid - out of the deal.
If the owner "owns" the name, I don't want the gov't taking it away from the owner. If the owner wishes to give up the name, then that's his business and shouldn't be Feinstein's!
It's great to see that they're working on a serious agenda for once they take power in Congress.
Well folks here is your chance:
Santa Clara .....
Funny how none of them were concerned about this when the Giants moved to San Francisco.
ML/NJ
Makes sense. Team names should change when locations change. "New Orleans Jazz" made complete sense. "Utah Jazz".... not so much. "Baltimore Colts", of course.... "Indianapolis Colts".... neeeiiiiigggghhh.
Didn't SF just refuse to accept a battleship memorial?
Could the Green Bay Packers keep their name if they moved to San Francisco? That could be appropriate.
Does this mean the Colts have to return the name and logo to Baltimore? Think DiFi is way out of bounds here. As a Senator doesn't she have anything better to do?
I'd like to see all major corporations leave the bay area, hope BOA leaves soon.
I am sure the team owns specific names and copyrights and will keep them.
