Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, a moderate Republican best known for his stewardship of the city after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, has taken the first step in a 2008 presidential bid, GOP officials said Monday...

Disfuntional Family??? Where the heck did you get that from? His ex-wife is now happily married, Giuliani is Happily married - his kid (son is big golfer and may become a pro) and his daughter I am sure is in college by now. What is disfunctional about that? His personal life is fine now. His previous marriage was a mess but of course that is all known and water under the bridge.
has a lot of baggage including a dysfunctional family and an erratic personal life
... and I like Rudy, a great deal! I saw first-hand what a fabulous job he did in turning NYC around, and 911.
"I like the man, but not for president, maybe VP."
This statement doesn't make any sense at all. I thought the most important quality of a VP is that he would make a good president since a VP could literally become President at any time.
Can any pro-Rudy folks tell me why I'm wrong in post-80? I'd LOVE to be proven wrong, but I just don't see it. Would really like to hear a different perspective.
Donna Hanover- his ex, will gladly go public with all of her gripes .
Ummm Donna Hanover is happily married now - she's busy with her career and has not interest in Rudy. And rightly so - because her baggage is just as bad! And Rudy's past is out there in the public you can look it up on any news site
Rudy polls #1 in every single state except for New Hampshire and Michigan where McCain polls #1. Who can top that one?
There are important aspects of government that are committed solely to the president where a social liberal can create havoc. I am thinking particularly of federal hate crimes prosecutions, affirmative action, executive department hiring quotas and policies, and integrating open homosexuality into the armed services.
Most important of all, there are nominations to the Supreme Court. One or two new liberal justices in the next term could destroy all the hard work conservatives have done since 1980 in developing and positioning first rate conservative legal talent for service on the Supreme Court.
I don't think it would be wise to take the chance that Rudy will put another Breyer or Ginsberg on the SCOTUS.
I don't believe the Dems would hold all the Kerry states. We are losing by tremendous margins in metro areas all over the US. Look at PA - Philly and Pittsburgh give the Dems such tremendous margins, that state is solidly Dem if we cannot break into that demographic. Northern Virginia is moving in the same direction. similar results with the big cities in Missouri. we barely won in 2000 and 2004 with this formula.
I live in Queens and compared to all the other so-called potential candidates Rudy stands out! I don't trust Romney - he's slick and something not real about him. McCain is just plain scary! Who else is there?
Rudi ain't no moderate. He is a LIBERAL.
I agree - he's going to stand up and say "I support judges who follow the constitution, with no specific abortion litmus test. and if those judges toss Roe, abortion goes back to the states, regardless of my personal opinion on the matter.". he's got to develop that message on abortion, and stick with it.
gay marriage is an easier one - its already a state issue, so long as the federal DOMA holds.
Another problem with McCain. He'll be 72 in 2008. That's tto old! And he's had a serious cancer. Republicans better come up with some more candidates or we're in trouble.
YES! Tell me about it, he may not be the best choice, but he sure as hell is the best to beat the Hellary demon. Nobody else can destroy the cult that has built around the beast like Rudy. There just isn`t enough time for any other Repub to get up to that name recognition.
I still say Ann Coulter should run if just to get on the same debating stage as the Hellary.
Romney is a "solid" enemy of the free market. He should have sacrificed all credibility here when he rammed through compulsory and subsidized health insurance but I guess most freepers have lost their zeal for the free market and voluntarism in this statist age.
Political common sense.
