You all need to get it into your heads that the Republican Party has GOT to appeal to Hispanic voters or it is DONE as a majority party within the next 10 years. President Bush and Karl Rove are not going to give up on this. The GOP will not survive as a party of angry white Southern married Christians. Mel Martinez now becomes the first minority to head a major political party, and he is not a "token" appointee because he has won an election with 5 million people voting for him in a very big state. It's a great move.
The Hispanics will naturally gravitate to the Democrats because they will give them everything under the sun.
Unless you are willing to compete in that arena, you'd be better to at least try to keep most of the zero-income folks out of our country.
It won't get us ANY votes to try to pass amnesty.
I agree with have to appeal and feel much better after a few phone calls, but I still would like a fulltime head of RNC. That said I do like the guy that is going to run day to day operations.
I would have rather had J.C. Watts myself who is personable!
Excuse me?!? How about God-fearing, family loving Americans who couldn't care less about somebody's ethnicity but just want to live in peace without the government taking all their money and giving it to criminals?
I resent being called an "angry white southern Christian".
I also was backing Steele for the job...so I am NOT racist.
It's a great move if you want open borders. Your bigoted assumption that the GOP is a party of "angry white southern married Christians" is garbage. What we have right now is an elitist Repub. establisment forcing integration with Latin America despite voter opposition. Most people in this country (including many Hispanics) want our immigration laws enforced and no amnesty.
Imho, the GOP's relentless pandering to Hispanics, and the dominance of open border elitists, will kill the Republican party.
I agree completely, but we do need to pep this guy up and train him to be a sharper speaker, quicker on his feet.
You are making the unfortunate mistake of letting reality get in the way.
That quite often isn't popular in freeperland.
Gimme a break - it's not about identity politics.
Only one of these adj/nouns describe me...and yet I vote a straight R ticket.
I oppose Martinez for one reason only, he does not have the energy, charm, personality, polish, demeanor, nor confidence to do for the RNC that that has to be done for 2008. I thought Steele had all those qualities I find lacking in Mel. MHO.
That's the advantage that liberals have over conservatives in this country. They're willing to win a little at a time. We seem to be of the "all or nothing" persuasion, at least here on FR.
