McCain states he is a proud conservative both fiscally and socially in the spirit of Ronald Reagan...

Were his lips moving when he said this?

"Dole and Reynolds were a disaster."

Incumbents lost. They chose people who the normal Republican couldn't support, ie Dist 8 in AZ. We lost that seat because that district was more moderate than who we gave it to in the primaries against the RNC. And what about Chaffee and Burns and Allen. The RNC gave them bigtime money and they all three still lost.

Agreed. To emphasize this, the state party leaders are meeting this month in most states to evaluate what happened and what changes we want. For anyone who wants to get their opinions on the table, now is the time to do it.

My understanding is that the main shift in voting patterns this year in Missouri involved a very small up tick in Democrat votes (less than 1%), a very slightly more significant downturn in votes for Talent (about 2.4%) and a sharp increase in votes for the libertarian candidate, who went from less than 1% last time to nearly 3% this time. And the margin for McCaskill was about 2.5%.

So, the reason Talent lost was unfaithful Republican voters who wanted to "lodge a protest." I understand the sentiment, but I think it was an extremely foolish thing to do. If they'd wanted to send a message and have a real effect they should have defeated Talent in the primary with a more effective Republican candidate. But that requires real work and real involvement in the process.

Now the protest votes are going to have real consequences and, this time, real people are going to die, quite possibly in large numbers. Not a good plan.

Hello snugs. Rumsfeld would have been the Dems whipping boy. GWB wouldn't do that to him. I would also look for the President to issue him a Presidential pardon at the first mention of charges against him.

I believe the Germans are already wanting to bring charges against him in the World Court.

"but more dims will be prosecuted... they are the party of corruption... they invented it! It is going to be a fun year!"

Too bad the FBI wasn't able to complete their investigations in Aug or Sept of this year; but, maybe next will be better for us in the long run, both what the Dim congress can try to accomplish and in 2008.

Susan Collins, that total moron, insisted that the deaths in New Orleans were the President's fault because he did not just take over the Lousiana National Guard.

Evidently it never occurred to her that NO president can just take over ANY state's National Guard without permission from the Governor. Despite pleading from the President, BlankO was determined that she was going to keep control, never mind taht lives were lost due to her decision.

I understand wanting a protest vote, but senate terms are six years long.

MSNBC is only on the air as a campaign arm of the DNC. They are last in the ratings, but serve a subversive purpose.

Understood, but you've hit on something. MSNBC is also Imus. Chris Mathews and Russert are also Imus, and the Today show , and the Nightly News, and the Daily Show (Jon Stewart). ABC and CBS News also are prominent on their morning shows.

Individually they are nothing, but combined they perhaps do make a difference.

Turn them off !

Won't matter if the dems don't keep their promises. The media will say they're keeping all their promises and aren't they wonderful.

My big beef with Rush was not that he was wrong at all since he wasn't but to pick a fight with a popular celeb like Michael J. Fox only days before election time and then beat it to death when there are so many other issues that we needed the leader of the New Media to be covering at the time seemed fool hardy and even a bit egotistical.

That being said it's an event to learn from not dwell on.

We need more teamwork if we want to beat the dirty dems.If we remember one thing about this election it is that we were defeated by a well oiled corrupt to the bone machine/politics group of Mafiosos that had no party platform and stood for nothing but our demise.

That should open up some eyes or put a different taste in your coffee for awhile.

In case you missed it and it comes up:

Lebanon - UNIFIL Patrol Takes Nights Off

Despite the 20,000 troops deployed in southern Lebanon, the United Nations admits that weapons smuggling from Syria continues unhindered. A German report finds UNIFIL does not patrol after dark.

And they rarely leave camp.

Spanish UNIFIL official Richard Ortax admitted to the paper that no patrols are carried out at night “because of the danger involved.” UNIFIL commanders said their function is to "observe changes in the behavior of the local population."

One junior officer told Der Spiegel he was glad that his battalion had only left its camp once. "It's absurd," he said. "We landed here and set up our tent city, but since then we've only left the camp to drive around and to make sure that we're seen."

UK - MI5 chief's warning on terrorism
Note: Anytime the head of MI5 comes out... it's serious.

Text of speech:
http://www.mi5.gov.uk/output/Page568.html

BBC short version (ridding myself of the propaganda parts):

MI5 knows of 30 terror plots and is keeping 1,600 individuals under surveillance, the security service's head has said.

In a speech Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller said the terror threat was "serious" and "growing" and would be "with us for a generation".

invludence - it's a combination of influence and indulgence, as in "The DBM likes to indulge themselves by influencing the sheeple and so-called mainstream Americans.

LOL! Sorry about that - I know - more coffee and spell check is my friend :-)

It would have been better if Lamont had won. It would have radicalized the Dems more and gave greater power to moveon.org, etc. The "Prez" position on the war seems to be changing. He is turning it over to the Baker-Hamiliton commission.

I disagree. Liebermann is going to be an irritation to dems on Iraq war. Baker-Hamiliton commission is the name media calls it - but it is NOT Prez's creation but Congress created it with the name "Iraq Study Group" . Prez already announced that he will not rubber stamp it's recommendations.

Also, there is a mis-conception that the the Sec.Def nominee is anti-Cheney person. Untrue again - both Cheney & Hadley worked with him earlier.
