Most people don't mind tax increases. In fact, they don't notice at all. That is the beauty of withholding.

But if they have to pay and extra 10.00 a month for gas,
there is hell to pay.

I mind it very much! My FIT was $70,000 in 2000. CA SIT was $19500 that year. My income taxes exceeded the balance on my home mortgage. The only refuge I have from this outrageous confiscation is to divert as much as possible to pre-tax retirement funds and hope that my rates will be lower when I am forced to start removing it at 59 1/2.

And then, to have the money handed back to me again in the form of student loans...with interest? WTF?

Sigh. It's supposed to be my money, right?
