Charlie Rangel: "Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" (..Said the Man From Harlem!!)
http://michellemalkin.com/archives/006337.htm ^

Posted on 11/09/2006 12:43:12 PM PST by WBL 1952

Charlie Rangel opens his mouth...and mocks the South: (hat tip: reader CRB)

“It’s not just committees — our influence within the House Democratic caucus will grow enormously,” Mr. Rangel said in an interview.

To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here.

“Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?” Mr. Rangel said.

I have never been to Mississippi but I have a special fondness for the state. Mississippi was the first word my Dad taught us kids to spell. Reason being - the Battleship U.S.S. Mississippi was his ship in WWII and he was so proud of her and if you read her battle history you can no doubt see why.

So while the other snot nosed 4-year olds were learning to spell C-A-T we were confidently spelling M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I

Absolutely right. Harlem had a thriving middle and upper class long before the great migration. I've actually met some of the people from this era. The women worked as domestics, but also librarians and school teachers etc.

Now cue the Stevie Wonder -- Living for the City.

I would add that NYC pols make this mistake all the time. Rememwber when Koch made the crack about cows and Upstate?

Sounds like Rangel has a problem with Mississippi, and probably every other state that is not named Rangelville...

Thanks, NerdDad.

I don't want him to live in Mississippi.
Mississippians have standards...

"Two of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at were in Meridian, MS (an excellent German restaurant)..."

That would be Weidmann's.
Thank you for the kind words. ;o)

"LOL who the hell really would want to live in Mississippi?"

That was unnecessarily tacky.

Yes, I've been all over the world and eaten in some of its best and worst restaurants. Weidmann's in Meridian and The Grocery in Oxford, MS were in the Top Ten and they were a heckuva lot cheaper than the Michelin Three Stars in Paris or the Kobe beef place in Kyoto.

WOW!

That's really saying something!

I grew up eating at Weidmann's, and I have to agree.
One would be hard pressed to find a better restaurant.

And, the price really IS right.

I haven't been to Doe's Eat Place in Greenville, but I always heard it was excellent, not fancy but the food was supposed to be great.

I've heard that Doe's is excellent, as well,
though I'm not fortunate enough to know this
first hand.

I would like to ask Rep Rangel this about Harlem.

My son recently rented an upscale apartment in a newly renovated part of Harlem.

The apartment is closer to his studio in Manhattan.

He told me yesterday that some of his black neighbors have begun to call him some really ugly racists names.

Two days ago a gang of black thugs threw trash and hurled insults on his white girlfriend and two of her roommates when they came to visit.

He is locked in on his rental contract so I do not know what to tell him, other than get the hell out with his life while he can.

Where's Jessie, Al and Obammmma to quell such disgusting acts of racism.

There is a great buffet restaurant in Mendenhall where I used to eat about once a month while working on the Gulf coast.

Doe's serves wonderful food. We eat at Doe's every couple of months. Well worth the drive.

MS is chock full of excellent buffet restaurants.
I'm glad you enjoyed the one you found, though
I have yet to find a bad one.

Thank you for working on the coast.

Yes...I've heard some wonderful things about it.

"Well worth the drive."

If that's true, it must be THE best in the world!
It's one heck of a drive from Oregon. ;o)

LOL -- is Weidmann's still open? If so, I will make sure to try it next time I'm in Meridian. In fact, I will be in Meridian later this month.

Harlem has carjackings, crime, drug dealers on most corners, and people who would cut my throat for no other reason than me being a "Cracker."
