Who the hell wants to live in New York? No offense to fellow NY freepers.
_____________________________________________________

None taken. We know damn well that we live in a liberal, progressive, socialist wanna be utopia here in the NE. I'm outta here and I'm taking the $40k I pay in property and income taxes with me. Let them find some other sucker to fund their Communist agenda.

The general consensus on this thread is accurate. Let them hang themselves with their own rope.

To paraphrase a credit card commercial...

Rangel calling the Vice President a son of bitch...1,123,000 votes.

Rangel's Ways and Means committee telling "rich" folks who make more than $26,000 per year to stick em up and give me your money...2,454,090 votes.

Rangel blaming Harold Ford's loss on racism while disavowing any racial motivation for Michael Steele's loss...1,541,900 votes.

Rangel crying like a 4 year old who's sister took his toy over Cheney's office in the House building...priceless.

There are some votes money can't buy, for everything else, there's dopey liberals.

It's better than 450 commercials during the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, New York City is exporting its rich slime up into the rest of the state, driving out families that have been farming or otherwise living in an area for centuries and can't afford the new "boutique economy"... My old hometown has elected a Democrat town council for the first time, and now has a proudly lesbian supervisor.

And people wonder why I am living in exile.

Ironic, isn't it? Even as our nation becomes increasingly urbanized, those same urban areas keep exporting slime into every corner of the heartland.

Too bad -- I used to be able to say that upstate NY was fairly conservative, but was just outnumbered by the folks in NYC. No more, I guess...

Good grief! He does know that the Mississippi Congressman are split down the middle, and at least 1 of those is from a Republican district. I wonder if his constituents know what kind of company Gene Taylor keeps?

What's even worse, if this were a white Republican saying this, it would be all over the place, since Mississippi has a very large black population. Apparently, Rangel doesn't care much about these black people.

Did you say "getting 20 mill. illegal Mexicans the vote...."? They already have it. In voting places in Fort Worth TX they packed the the place jabbering in Spanish, looking like they just crossed the River. The only thing they needed to vote was a street address, no ID, No valid voting registration card or anything. I had to show my ID to get a library card, job, and register for Community college classes. But anyone from anywhere at any time can vote, No proof of citenship needed. We are already there, prepare to be Spanish speaking Muslims...God please forgive up, help us.

The frontier line of "upstate" is moving northward. The arrogance of the people moving out is unbelievable...the language they use is patronizing and similar to those who felt they had to "colonize the savages for their own good"--as they bring in worse conditions than were there before. :-(

Well, at least Harlem doesn't have fire ants.

They do have rats the size of possums though.

--if a Republican said that, it's 24/7 MSM coverage
Charlie will be totally given a pass--

Mississippi FReepers should call Trent Lott's office ASAP.

This is Lott's great opportunity to call a press conference, and chastise Rangel for his idiotic remark. He should then ask the Enemedia why they won't ask Rangel to apologize as many times as Lott did in Dec. 2002, after his Strom Thurmond comment was blown out of proportion exponentially.

If Lott can do that, he's a shoo-in for GOP Whip, and may have another shot at Minority Leader.

Harlem is no longer a slum - it's been regentrified and is very beautiful. It's one of the most beautiful sections of New York City - you can stand at the Morris-Jumel mansion and see the East & Hudson River & Palisades from the porch. It has a wonderful and interesting history from the Dutch thru the Revoluntionary War. It was a very exciting place in the early part of the 20th Century. Now it's overloaded with great restaurants!

But Rangel is a living horror who has now been unleased on the poor, unsuspecting American public. But they voted for him and to paraphrase Mayor Koch: the people must be punished.

Thanks for correcting my slight oversight - however I seem to recall both LA senators (be they rep or dem) insisting that $100 billion + was some how justified....

....and having personally lived in LA for years, and with many relatives still there, IMO the demands being made for a federal bail-out are a bit over the top (JMHO)

There are certain sub-texts to Rangel's statement that are lost to most Americans but that resonate with those who know the history of modern Black NYC.

Black political power in the city has always been divided into two very seperate and highly competetive camps, Harlem and Brooklyn.

Harlem is "light, bright and damn near White", led by the the likes of Percy Sutton (the real power in Black NYC politics) and Adam Clayton Powell Jr., both of whom are what used to be called octaroons by the general society and 'high yellow' by Black society. The Harlem cadre came mostly from the northern tier of southern states (Va, NC, SC). They were better educated, upwardly mobile, invested in the arts and had an understanding of politics that evolved as the times did, both locally and nationally. This is the group that installed 'gentlemanly' David Dinkins in City Hall. You will see their tuxedoed pictures on Page Six.

Brooklyn is the polar opposite, darker, far less polished, far less sophisticated in every way, from the 'deep' south. They are not visible beyond local borders and with the exception of Al Sharpton, unknown by the greater population. The Brooklyn style of Black politics is akin to open thuggery rather than palace intrigue.

This class-war seperation grew out of the northern migration of the mid-twentieth century. Just like any immigrant population the second wave followed the path taken by the first wave. In this particular migration the first wave to hit Harlem had its roots in those northern tier states while the first wave to hit Brooklyn hails from Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Georgia.

Rangel was insulting Black Brooklynites as much as he was those who live in Mississippi.

On the positive side, it is this inter-Nicene warfare among Black NY politicians that has kept Black politicians from running the city.

I live in New Jersey and have been through Mississippi several times. Although I have no reason at the moment to relocate there, if I had a choice between Harlem and Mississippi I would have to say Harlem would never be an option. Mississippi has nice people and pretty country. Harlem has carjackings, crime, drug dealers on most corners, and people who would cut my throat for no other reason than me being a "Cracker."

I think Rangel should start pushing for a draft again, too. Why not make 2008 a Donkey Roast?

The fact that their leadership is loaded with hard core lefties is likely to make 2006 a pyrrhic victory for the Dems.

A local radio reporter also smeared the south recently when he said southern states have lower tax burdens. Alabama is one of the lowest in the nation. He ended up saying something like "you would have to decide if it is worth paying low taxes to live in a place like.... ALABAMA." He said it in a sneering, condescending way. I suspect the people in that state like it just fine and find it a good place to live. I have only been to Huntsville AL twice but found it to be a very nice city. It's obvious Rangel, like this liberal reporter, are elitists.

We need to scream and holler for his resignation!
Where's our Republican leaders? They need to grab every camera and microphone and demand that he not be named to any job of importance because of his demoralizing remarks about Mississippi's victims of Katrina.
Let's don't let them get away with this stuff.
