After Bolton, it will be Cheney.

Sitting Vice Presidents usually don't just step down. The people elected Dick Cheney. It's an insult to the people who elected him for Dick Cheney to step down. The people did NOT elect Rumsfeld or Bolton.

There's no way Bolton could be confirmed in the new Senate. And the Democrats would probably just filibuster any appointment made in the current Senate. That DOESN'T mean the Democrats will name the next UN ambassador - that's up to President Bush. Whoever he names has to pass the muster of the Senate, but if Casey and Webb are as conservative as they claim to be (plus the Democrat Senators from current red states), that might not be much of a problem.

Because he knows he has no support in the heralded "base" of the GOP.

He never has; it's all been just like Rush: supporting him because the alternative is worse.

Disgusting.

Ahh, the old "I'm taking my ball and going home" approach to national politics. Clearly (and I don't mean this with any real enmity) you wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to ever become prez. Not a big surprise, though, only a very few do.

The good news is that we don't have to play nice with phoney conservatives anymore just to hold a majority that proved largely ineffective anyway. The RINO's value has just been cut in half.

AS ths point, Chafee is focused on landing a lobbying job, not on wasting his time tending to Senate business, such as it is.

I hope.

To quote our newly-former-SECDEF, "Hope is not a method."

They will do what Pelosi and the rest of the leadership say they are to do.

Murtha will not allow any appropriations for the forces in Iraq except for bugging out.

Terrorists will rejoice.

Alas, Babylon--it's not a novel, it's the script for the next freakin' reality show.

Nancy is making herself known, and Bush is saying "Yes, Maa'm. Can't remember who said that maybe they won't be too bad.

The troops have been stabbed in the back for the second time in one generation by the American public.

I dare call it treason.

The President needs to show our troops and our enemies that he is still in charge. Mr. President, show some guts and do this---

The Bolton Plan (another recess appointment, with a twist!)
Human Events ^ | October 3, 2006 | Human Events

The Bolton Plan:

If Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R.-R.I.) continues thwarting a Senate vote to confirm John Bolton as the permanent U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, the White House plans to make a second recess appointment of the embattled diplomat. According to an administration source who requested anonymity, if the Senate does not vote on Bolton before his current recess appointment expires December 18, the President will again name Bolton to the post during Congress’ post-election recess. In order for Bolton to be paid, however, he would also have to be appointed to a different position while his formal title would have to be changed. “Obviously, we would prefer a Senate vote and the almost-certain confirmation for John Bolton,” said the source.

Gator, you have a beautiful idea....I think we should do that....but better yet, I think the troops should say, ok since you as Rummy to go, we go to....

Let every one over there come home, then let the libs and the pubbies that showed the republicans by not voting for them and stayed home, pick up arms and keep the terrorists from bombing our cities and making America look like Palestine...

I think in my day when I was a kid, it was called 'put up or shut up' theory....

To stop evil here we had to remove a dictator. Our president and congress made a commitment to the Iraqi people. I don't believe he will go back on his word.

Bush may not go back on his word, but Congress most assuredly will--and Congress controls the purse.

"Not a big surprise, though, only a very few do."

Bush in his press conference mentioned how he had been in many political rodeos. You dust youreself off and get back on (or words to that effect). Reminded me of Nixon's book "In the Arena", the title came from something Teddy Roosevelt had said I believe.

One thing I was mad about was Rummy's "resignation" and why do that now instead of earlier. Bush was asked that guestion and got pretty pissed. Said how he was not going to announce his decision so late in the campaign as it would send the wrong signal to the troops as it would make it look like he was using the military for political purposes. I have to agree - and like the way Bush thinks (more than my knee-jerk responses!).
