Washington, D.C. - In move that was not unexpected, President George Bush fired Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld today.
Officially it is being called a "resignation". CNN is reporting that Rumsfeld is stepping down immediately.
Former CIA Director Robert Gates will assume his position.
In a news conference this morning, in President Bush was clearly stressed, he admitted that he lied last week when he said that Rumsfeld would be "staying on".
Rumsfeld has been a frequent target of Iraq war critics due to a war in Iraq that has spiraled out of control and killed over 28,00 American soldiers.
Rumsfeld is the oldest person to have held the position, and he was also the youngest when he served as the 13th Secretary of Defense from 1975 to 1977 under President Gerald Ford. Rumsfeld also served in various positions under President Richard Nixon, as well as four terms in the United States House of Representatives, and as U.S. ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) (1973-1974).
Someone just kill me before the bad guys have a chance to.
